I'm a liberal, I've never owned a gun in my life and I've always hated guns. But if I was living in the States now I would be buying a gun and learning how to use it. If you are in America the ability to defend yourself against the fascists is becoming very important. This is not a drill.
@bullivant mood on the gun but can't afford because capitalism and im more into blades but guns would be useful right about now
@bullivant my suspicion is that individual firearms owners will not provide much effective resistance to fascists if the latter have taken over the coercive apparatus of the state, but maybe it's worth a try.

@bullivant I think the same thing when 2nd amendment right-wingers start go on about how their personal firearms will somehow protect them from the US army if push comes to shove. The state always wins against armed individuals. Even armed civilians self-formed militias will get crushed in a straight fight with the state; they might be able to go underground and wage guerrilla war but I suspect very few people have the stomach for a protracted insurgency.
