SkySpain's FA president Luis Rubiales refuses to quit as he claims Women's World Cup final kiss was 'mutual'By Niamh Lynch

Rubiales' RFEF is

➡️ threatening to sue Jenni Hermoso for alleged lies and defamation

➡️ threatening to sue the ~80 players who signed the letter stating their refusal to play for Spain's national team while Rubiales remains in his post

The GuardianSpanish football federation threatens to sue Jenni Hermoso over kiss ‘lies’By Stephen Burgen

The UEFA Nations League starts on 21 September. Rubiales is vice-president of UEFA.

I wonder if every player not on strike would wear some kind of shirt in solidarity.

Or, ideally, participate in the strike itself. Just both teams walk off the pitch after the anthems.

(Assuming all this is still dragging on by then.)

@wwc

➡️ Prosecutors at Spain's top criminal court have opened a preliminary investigation into Rubiales actions on grounds it could constitute a crime of sexual assault

“Prosecutors from the National Court have opened a preliminary investigation to look into the facts, which could constitute an offence of sexual assault,” a court statement said, indicating it would offer Hermoso a chance to file suit to that end

@wwc

TheJournal.ieSexual assault investigation launched following Spanish FA President's kissing of playerRubiales was provisionally suspended by FIFA on Saturday for kissing a player at the Women’s World Cup final.

"This is exactly why many women do not come forward to report harassment or abuse.

"We are being asked to ignore what you can see on film, and to dismiss a woman when she says she didn't consent. It is an outrageous situation."

"Jenni Hermoso has been backed by the United Nations Human Rights office" after the assault by Rubiales.

YES. Goodbye, you piece of shit, and I hope you end up in prison.

Luis Rubiales resigns as president of Spanish FA over Jenni Hermoso assault

@wwc

@clickhere stopppp. How is this real life

@clickhere I suppose what more should I expect in the year of our lord 2023. He probably thinks Spain won because he gave them permission to play in the first place. If he closed his eyes, the world would disappear.

@nichorra His violence was such a blatant display of power, dominance, and ownership. The fact that he did it so publicly, and is since so unashamed and has so much (also pale, male & stale) support only compounds and adds to that same, awful display.

@clickhere @wwc

This is even worse than the assault itself.

@bennip @wwc Yeah, I was immediately suspicious of the RFEF's statement and the quotes attributed to her. I couldn't believe it when media outlets kept saying things like "Hermoso said" - no, his organisation's statement said.

@clickhere @wwc ah here. If this is what this guy thinks is appropriate behaviour when the entire world is watching I shudder to think what scuzzy behaviour he gets up to in private

@Padjo @wwc EXACTLY. It's absolutely vile.

@clickhere @wwc Ah yes FIFA, a byword for honour and decency. They'll soon sort this out.

@faduda @wwc Yeah, it doesn't inspire.. much.

@clickhere @wwc

Very good, his action is unexcusable

@paulkruczynski @wwc And good riddance. Next: Jorge V.

@clickhere

👏Betis defender Hector Bellerin: "What is happening is truly shameful . From representing our country with that level of vulgarity, misrepresenting the victim's statements and, on top of that, having the audacity to blame her, going on to victimise her for having committed an abuse, are facts that no one would do. How can this go unpunished? Football is a social tool to make advancements and progress, machismo should have no place within this system."

@wwc

@clickhere @wwc I don't understand why the image of their kiss is being shared in so many news articles. Why should Jenni be reminded of this unpleasant memory again and again? India is no champion of women rights and certainly sits at the bottom for journalism but this is not something even we would tolerate here.

@abhijith I completely agree, it's horrible. It really shouldn't be repeatedly published like that - it's an assault, for goodness sake.

@wwc

@clickhere @wwc I created a temporary insta account and got this email of FUTPRO - prensa@futpro.es. I have written to them regarding this.

@abhijith @wwc Oh well done - keep us updated if you hear anything back.

@clickhere hey friend, if you’re going to use the wwc group to share news on this, could you use a cw tag? Thank you!

@clickhere @wwc those kind of #men shouldnt have any power over any #woman. Not in womens #soccer nor elsewhere. They are predators and have zero respect for women. No woman is save with them. I wouldnt want to be alone in a room with senor #rubiales ! Disgusting behavior!
#football #mastodonfc #fifa #wwc23 #spain

@MettEagle @wwc The entire leadership teams of RFEF, the national teams, and UEFA should be removed and women appointed to those roles.

@clickhere @wwc I thought John Delaney was bad. Solidarity with the players!

@karlstanley @wwc I mean, we only know about what we know about him; but yes, sexual violence is a whole other level.

That's an excellent idea. Even more powerful if the men would come out with a gesture of support too. The next round of Euro 2024 qualifiers is on 7 September, so they have enough time to plan to do something in solidarity.

(I wouldn't hold my breath though. Or for Rubiales to jump/be pushed by the end of September.)

@clickhere I've been wondering why UEFA hasn't stepped in. Now I know. Jfc , it never ends.

@RasherMurphy Right? It's basically now a power struggle.

@clickhere At least FIFA have weighed in.

@RasherMurphy How bad are things when FIFA are taking the moral high ground..?

@clickhere

What was she wearing? And what was she doing there at that time of day, anyway? How can we make this entirely her fault?

@wwc

@clickhere @wwc it’s good news, though I wonder if sort of back room deal is in play? Scumbags like Rubiales will always look for a payout or a cushy number elsewhere before they will do the right thing.

@karlstanley @wwc Very probably. Perhaps the criminal charges changed the dynamics, but ultimately he'll be fine.

@clickhere @wwc yes him playing the victim and getting all "my poor wife and daughters" hardly screams remorse or apology does it
