Fuck yes, CORK.
"Cork City Council has become the first to pass a motion committing “to using factual and accurate information, based on credible sources” in its discussions and debates."
Cork City Council passes first motion tackling misinformation following Belong To 'Check the Facts' campaign:

Ooh. Hit toot. I hope I haven't inadvertently DDoSed Ireland's longest running queer publication. Sorry guys.
@clickhere Cllr Rice is also a general election candidate. I'll vote for him, but I kind-of hope he gets a bit more time to clean up the city council before moving to the national stage.
@Rubelicious Ohh, I didn't realise - I hope he does well, but I guess (for voters, at least) it could be win-win, whatever the outcome.
@Rubelicious @clickhere don't worry rubes, he's got about 13 FFG ghouls to get through first. I'd say we'll be holding on to him in Cork for a while. I'll vote for him though.
@clickhere Why can’t we do this in US presidential elections?
@CaptMorgan I don't know - though I don't think that it happens in any elections. Which might explain.. *gestures at everything*
@clickhere Who would have thought this would be necessary? It used to be taken for granted.
@anne_twain Alas, many of us saw this coming, and never took it for granted.
@clickhere This needs to happen everywhere. It should have happened at least a decade ago in the U.S. but we have unserious lawmakers across both parties.
@julianrt It should have been happening since at least the early 1990s - even before then.
(On a separate note, we have a multi party system with PR-STV voting. Definitely recommend it, imperfections and all, if democracy survives the decade.)
@clickhere I am definitely realizing the privilege I had growing up in a democracy and learning how much we are losing through misinformation and apathy. I am so incredibly depressed and scared.
@julianrt It's disturbing times. Now is when people must listen to queers, feminists (not terfs), BIPOC, disabled peole, leftists, and every other person who for years has been warning about this, especially as we felt its effects first. Listen, understand, act.
@clickhere I wish those weren’t they very people who are being silenced, but I guess there is a reason for that.
