While it was great that the people powered campaign by residents in Mervue to prevent the loss of the bus stop was won, the latest BusConnects update has planned to remove the 401 from entering Mervue and instead send the 405 through the narrow, unsuitable streets.

The community has come together & rejected this plan.

The Mervue residents have formed a committee, of which I am a part, to put our position to the city council & more importantly to the NTA & minister for transport to stop this change.

Keep our bus services as it is!

And while I've been a small part in helping on the committee, the real work has been done by the people on the ground in the community talking with their neighbours, organising meetings, and getting petitions signed, and if needed in the future, protest.

People power can work.

Especially to the minister for transport, Eamon Ryan it is imperative that our bus routes remain as is. As a member of the Green Party, one would expect you to encourage more routes & stops for our public transport, not remove them.

We want these services. We use them.

A lot of elderly residents & children in our community use the 401 service. They cannot be trying to cross the busy Monivea Road. This is a massive safety issue.

Not to mention the safety of children in the estate if the proposed 405 bus re-routing is to take place through it.

There's barely enough space for cars on some of these roads and turns as is.

There's also a lot of residents of Ballybrit & Ballybane area that come to the shops & their closest An Post.

The Mervue residents also need to get to Wellpark for their bigger shops.

The NTA should not be dictating to Mervue what our routes should be. This should be a bottom up approach to planning, not top down. To encourage public transport as we should be, the NTA should be engaging with the community for how the services could be improved.

And while I support the wider idea of what BusConnects is doing in regard to better public transport & active travel infrastructure, it needs to be engaging with the communities on how it can work better for us.

Proposing removal of stops or routes doesn't make any sense.
