My two primary theories after WWDC:

1) Traditional Mac apps no longer feel native on macOS
2) iPadOS, on external displays, is now a desktop operating system

Once again, after several years of iPad seemingly going nowhere, we're strongly trending towards a convergence point. Even if we never quite reach one operating system, it really does feel to me like we're headed towards one SDK, one app platform, with apps that scale all the way up and down. It's taken them a decade to do a 'Windows 10'

@stroughtonsmith Makes me think of Windows 8 and Windows RT rather than Windows 10. RT was more restrained feature-wise with a more modern SDK, like iPadOS, and 8 could run those same apps as is, along with traditional Windows apps that didn’t feel like they belong (assuming you bought into Metro as _the_ design language for modern apps).

@dkb I don't think the new design language is as extreme as Metro in Windows 8 in any way. It's a lot closer to where Microsoft ended up in Windows 10, with a clear distinction between old and new UI without throwing it all out

@stroughtonsmith Fair. I wasn’t really thinking about the extremities of the difference, more the restrained OS that can do some desktop-y things vs a desktop OS that has more-or-less the full feature set of the restrained OS plus more flexibility and legacy support.
