I'm going to attempt to make the move again. I wonder if anyone here thinks there's more activity on Bluesky? This is a quiet place compared with Twitter! What I'd love is to have a level of debate and discussion on #ecologicalemergency and related topics #climate #biodiversity #polarisation #fragmentation #collapse and how to #mitigate
@lucyweirphd it can be worth a go, quick tip here: https://mastodon.ie/@davey_cakes/113889105076037099
You have to curate stuff you want to see onto your home server by following people sometimes, especially if niche.
Bluesky has way more stuff on it in general, but the downside is your own posts are more likely to get lost.
Here is slower but particular interests can be served well by that once you find people to follow.
For example, a tag you used with its results here: https://mastodon.ie/tags/ecologicalemergency
And on on .social:
https://mastodon.social/tags/ecologicalemergency
You can see there are accounts that the .ie server doesn't know about, but .social does.
As the biggest fedi server, searching tags on .social will definitely find you more stuff than the same search on .ie
You don't need to make an account there or anything, just tap follow, enter mastodon.ie when it asks, and you can grow your follow list.
@davey_cakes that’s very helpful, Dave. Many thanks.
@lucyweirphd Are you following all of those hashtags so that posts using them appear in your feed? And following users who you find using those hashtags so that you're engaging with people likely to have those conversations? You've control over how quiet it is really, the more people and hashtags you follow and engage with the more lively your timeline's likely to be.
@shivers thanks, Siobhan, I think so but I’ll double check. Anyhow, hola from Playa Honda and a possible algal bloom?!
@lucyweirphd And follow those hashtags you posted to help you find the appropriate people to follow. What kind of debate and discussion are you wanting? Have you posted a prompt for a discussion....with all the relevant hashtags?
@rspfau hmm, no. But I think I’m looking for something other than what’s available here, more like the old Twitter experience. Getting news and info on up to the minute topical subjects. Not a general discussion. Also I don’t really like social media!! But thank you!

Paste them the links into the search box in your instance to directly follow them from there. The first one has another list of many more on climate.
Once you have followed more people from different instances, you might then have more success looking up and following hashtags too, e.g.:
.
@BB I’ll have a look later when I’ve dealt with my fear and loathing of both technology and popular terminology! Thanks!

No worries, and I fully support all Luddite tendencies
