I have a Linx 1010B tablet and I'm toying with the idea of ditching the Windows 10 installation on it for either Linux Mint or Windows XP.
I know it can run Linux Mint as it has been documented, but does anyone know if Windows XP could run on it?
@richardtroupe with these specs winxp will run like shit, but mint has a chance to be somewhat usable.
@f4grx I suppose I was thinking that it might be usable since Windows 10 runs *okay* on it.
I'm only really using it as a browsing and light emulation gaming device.
@richardtroupe winxp is now 23 years old and may not be the most stable (or secure) OS around. I would say that a linux would bring you more recent software.
for example I am not sure the latest versions of firefox will run on xp.
however if you're just using retro apps then it would be more appropriate to set it up with winxp.
@f4grx Yeah, I think my use case would change with it when running XP and I'd probably primarily use it for older gaming.
If it's shite, I can always switch over to Linux Mint.
@richardtroupe yes, sure you can. If your emulator run in linux then emulation will be similar but you would benefit from a more recent browser.
I mint I would recommend xfce or mate over other desktops that might be too heavyweight for an atom machine with 2gb of old ram.
Also may I suggest a ssd if not already installed? This really has strong potential to rejuvenate an old spinning rust machine.
