Partial Text of article: By LAURA WHITE Maureen Tucker gave up a $100 a week job as an IBM key punch operator so that she could play drums in a rock band for only $5 a night. "A regular 9-to-5 job was too confining. I felt mentally as well as physically captured by ma chines," said 23-year-old Mau- reen, a petite redhead. Maureen was a liberal arts student at Ithaca College in New York earning her tuition by working parttime and summers punching out computer cards. But music was her main inter est. In high school she played the clarinet. She taught herself to play the guitar. And she even bought a small drum to accom- pany her favorite records. Maureen's music career be gan by accident when she loaned a couple of amplifiers to a child- hood friend, Sterling Morrison, a base guitarist with a brain- rock group known as The Velvet Underground. When the group needed a percussionist, Sterling asked Maureen to sit in.. "I loved it. At first, I tried to keep both jobs, but pretty soon It becarne-impossible. One had to go, and it was the computer cards," she said. The Velvet Underground was discovered by pop-artist Andy Warhol, who incorporated them into his mixed-media show, the first of its kind, "The Explod- ing Plastic Inevitable" which appeared at the Institute of Con- temporary Art and toured the United States.

Haha, I guess anti-intellectualism was alive and well in the '60s!

@TheZorse @sk76 That's right, anti-intellectualism used to be in a good shape in the 1960s. Since then it's been in a steady decline. Today it's about to die of starvation, I fear.

No. When I first heard about this record they were going for around $40. Two days later I reconsidered, but they were gone. I can imagine it being repressed soon though. And uploaded.
