Originally a Celtic goddess adopted by Christianity, Brigid always traditionally brought Spring to Ireland.
The ancient Tuatha dé Danann people celebrated her fetsival of Imbolc as the re-awakening of the natural world. Trees re-flourished, hibernating animals awoke and days became longer and brighter.
Our Irish environment is as vital to our health and wellbeing now as it was then, we must work together to protect it.
@EPAIreland There is very little doubt that St Brigid was as real as St Patrick and St Columcille. Like St Patrick and St Columcille, and many other saints of that era, her story became associated with various miraculous events, but it's pretty chauvinistic to dismiss St Brigid as "Originally a Celtic goddess adopted by Christianity".
It's possible that there was a minor pre-Christian deity called Brigid, but there's a lot less evidence of that than there is of the real St Brigid.
