When I saw the four young women standing in front of this mural in Lagos it struck me that they were born roughly only a quarter century after the military coup and subsequent civil resistance campaign which spelled the end of 48 years of authoritarian rule in Portugal and the country's withdrawal from its colonies. What if it had never happened? How different would their lives be?
