On 18 February 1943 Hans and Sophie Scholl, part of the White Rose group of peaceful protesters against the Nazi regime, were arrested at the University of Munich. They were later executed by guillotine. They were 24 and 21 years old.

@bullivant Sophie's last words are so haunting as I remember this story. Very sad. :(
@Dianora Sad, but also extraordinarily courageous. They knew the risks they were taking but went ahead anyway when the vast majority of the population just kept their heads down.
