I started dating a #deaf person, and even though it's going well, and we have good communication, I can see their anxiety go through the roof when we are in a place like a bar where we are in close proximity to and interacting with hearing people who can't sign and kind of act weird when they see a deaf person. I think it's called Dinner Table Syndrome
@toddunctious I once went to a party where I was the only person present who couldn't sign. It was really quite an informative experience to be the odd one out. (The host had deliberately seated me next to somebody who could interpret for me when necessary - like all the speeches!) Great party, though.
@SorenMRiis I'm only new to Danish Sign Language (DTS) but I've picked up a lot quickly and I can sign with my boyfriend without needing to type or write stuff already. It's funny when we interact with hearing people, I try to sign what I am saying to them so my boyfriend can follow, and I can clearly see they are like, why are you signing to me and speaking
