Question for #solar and #offgrid people, do you power things directly(ish) from your batteries? (ie without using an inverter to provide mains voltage)

if so, do you use a regulator, or a DC converter? just a fuse?

A DC converter seems like cheating, (as it's basically an inverter) but I'm considering a low dropout regulator, if I can find a suitable part, or just using zeners and LC filters to clamp to 48v.

I want to power things from my #48V #batteries without having to have the #inverter on, but some of them require regulation as the battery voltage is not very constant and is always above 48V.

I'm also finding that there are basically no 48V appliances/lightbulbs etc. there's loads for 12V though.
