I chatted on Reddit with a person who had both hands amputated, and he was interested in a macro pad to preprogram the key combinations that are difficult for typing with two sticks. I proposed him to try my one-handed keyboards instead (github.com/clackups). Today I just took two Lego sticks and practiced typing. It turned out pretty usable, and the only parameter I had to adjust was the sticky key timeout. After increasing it from 500 to 2000ms, the keyboards were totally usable. The NuPhy is more flat, so a bit easier to work with the sticks, but the YMDK was ok to use as well.

@chad

I heard a brief interview about this yesterday on #CBC.

I thought it was quite the indictment of #yegTransit that some of the people who needed amputations other than unhoused people were newcomers to Canada *waiting for buses.* 😳😱😳

And given our city's constant push to destroy any semblance of stability for unhoused people, I was genuinely shocked that there were not MORE amputations among that population. 😢😡

Leyan Abu al-Atta, a 13-year-old girl from Gaza, is one of thousands of children who have lost limbs in this war, in what experts say is likely one of the most intense mass-disabling events of children in our lifetimes.

Fault Lines follows Leyan’s journey as she makes her way to the US for medical treatment in the hopes of overcoming a spinal cord injury and walking again on prosthetic legs.

Scott #Anderson, Deputy Humanitarian Coordinator and Director of #UNRWA Affairs in #Gaza, on #Israel's yesterday's attack on the al-#Mawasi "humanitarian zone":

»Visiting the Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Younis yesterday, I witnessed some of the most horrific scenes I have seen in my nine months in Gaza. This overstretched health facility admitted well over 100 of yesterday’s severe injuries. With not enough beds, hygiene equipment, sheeting, or scrubs, many patients were treated on the ground without disinfectants. Ventilation systems were switched off due to a lack of electricity and fuel, and the air was filled with the smell of blood.

I saw #toddlers who are double #amputees, #children paralyzed and unable to receive treatment, and others separated from their parents. I also saw mothers and fathers who were unsure if their children were alive. Parents told me in despair that they had moved into the ‘so-called humanitarian zone’ in the hope that their children would be safe there..«

Dr Rik Peeperkorn, WHO representative for the occupied Palestinian territory, says in addition to the 23,210 people killed, 59,100 have been wounded in Israeli attacks, many who will require long-term healthcare.

He cited multiple trauma cases: “spinal trauma, crush injuries, severe burns, amputees – I’ve never seen so many amputees in my life, including among children.”
