For today's #ComicShowAndTell, I have my only comic that was produced in cooperation with the FBI!
This is Captain America Goes To War Against Drugs (pub. 1991). It's 20 pages and was free at the time. This book is full of 90s outfits and tons of #JustSayNo kinds of stuff.
There is a story - aliens are trying to take over humanity by bringing drugs to earth. Meanwhile, Captain America helps a baseball-playing teen quit an unnamed substance.
Today's #ComicShowAndTell book is actually a martial arts manual!
Eastman and Laird's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Authorized Martial Arts Training Manual (pub. 1986) illustrates stances and step-by-step forms for each of the turtles' signature weapons. I can only imagine how many kids tried these out with sticks and whatnot.
The songbook features illustrations from a variety of artists. Interestingly, the lineup includes Neil Gaiman, who provided art to accompany "The Murders on the Rue Morgue".
Let's do this week's #ComicShowAndTell!
I'm not surprised the strangest book in my collection is an Alan Moore book. Or more specifically, Alan Moore's Songbook.
Published in 1998, this strange B&W book collects lyrics for 13 delightfully twisted original songs such as "The Hair of the Snake that Bit Me".
I found it in a dusty box, forgotten in the corner of a comic shop. I haven't seen another copy since.
Let's start this #ComicShowAndTell series with something crazy!
This is The Punisher Meets Archie, published in 1994. In this story, the Punisher chases a dangerous criminal into Riverdale…a criminal who looks a lot like Archie. The premise apparently started as a joke between the creators.
The cover of this comic is die-cut into the shape of a crosshair, right over Archie's face on the page beneath.
I’ve been getting sentimental about my beloved comic collection. It's not the biggest or the most valuable, but it's mine.
So I'm starting a weekly #ComicShowAndTell where I share my comics and collectibles, from the notable to the bizarre. I might have manga to talk about too, once in a while.
I'll try to keep this going once a week, maybe not always on the same day though.
