If anyone on here cares: “Now it’s time for hard truths. #Gretzky has lived in the U.S. longer than he lived up here, in an American mansion with an American wife and American kids, palling around on American golf courses with an American president who says that Canada “only works as a state.” It might break Gretzky’s heart to hear it, but a lot of Canadians don’t think of him as one of us anymore. Once, we cried over where he played his hockey. His face could have been on our money, never mind his name on our sticks. But he’s made clear his choice, and so we’ve made ours. Wayne Gretzky’s records, like his faults, are singular. The loss is his and his alone. “

It's incredible that Gretzky has 2857 points (points is goals+assists) including 1963 assists.

That 1963 assists is more than any other player has of points (goals+assists)!!

Those records may very well be unbreakable. But they said that about just the goals until Ovechkin came along so... who knows.

Wow, I didn't realize this little bit of Ovechkin/Gretzky trivia before just now.

"Ovechkin got No. 895 in his 1,487th game — the same number Gretzky finished with.”

Now that's an impressive coincidence!

A lot of good detail in this report.

Ovi also has more 40 goal seasons than Gretzky. 14 vs 12, the most in league history. He is just an incredible, gifted, consistent workhorse and also seems to be a good person. (well, except the #RussiaUkraineWar / Putin stuff :( )

CBCOvechkin breaks Gretzky's all-time NHL goals record with 895th | CBC SportsAlex Ovechkin has broken Wayne Gretzky's record for the most goals in NHL history by scoring the 895th of his career.

Apparently, Wayne Gretzky feels bad over the criticisms of his Trump support. His wife claims his heart is broken over the online comments.

Good.

He has wronged his country, and he should feel guilt, shame, and pain at a time when Trump is inflicting harm on the country he claims to love.

He needs to choose, an American dictator or the Canadian people. He cannot remain close to Trump and also enjoy the love and support of Canada.

I actually believe all it would take is an apology from Gretzky (himself).

After all, it wouldn't be the first time The Great One tearfully apologized to Canadians (and Edmontonians) for abandoning us for America.

I don't know if he's going to do that though. And unfortunately, that's going to cost him his reputation.

This time, it's a little more serious than a hockey trade.

“After Orr, his wife, and Trump have all put words in “The Great One’s” mouth, perhaps Wayne Gretzky will eventually speak for himself on the topic.”

🇨🇦 Oh Canada… when our hockey heroes turn out to be pot-metal, not gold.
““I have so many great friends,” Trump said in January.. “One of them is The Great One. I said, ‘Run for prime minister, you’ll win. … It will take two seconds.’ He said, ‘Well, am I gonna run for prime minister or governor? You tell me.’ I said, ‘..let’s make it Governor. I like that better.’’‘

@tferrer

It is clear which side #Gretzky is on.

"It's just confusing what side he's on," Jeffares said. "He's such an icon for Canada, you would think that people like that would rally behind the country right now. We need that."

"But Gretzky, an Order of Canada recipient, has lived in the U.S. for years and he and his wife are friends with Trump. He attended Trump's inauguration ceremony in January and has visited Trump several times at Mar-a-Lago, the president's Florida home.”

"It started on social media with news that Mr. #Gretzky had been booed in some #Canadian bars showing the game. That spread to fringe outlets using words like #traitor. Which allowed mainstream outlets to use the word in quotes. ...
Things were probably irreparable after the first time he was pictured in a #MAGA hat, gone full #sycophant. But when he would not wear our uniform after wearing theirs, that was truly it."
