Reno Balloon Races

The Reno Balloon Race is the largest free hot air ballooning event in the world taking place every year in September.
Starting at 7:00 am is the start of the mass ascension. This is where all of the balloons start inflating and lift off when ready to go. This is a capture of the balloons inflating prior to lift off.

Reno Balloon Races This is an image of hot air ballons inflating and preparing for what is known as the Mass Asension. There are upwards of 100 balloons at this event each year. In this image we have roughly a dozen balloons in various stages of inflating and prepa.ring for flight. Here are a few fun photos from today’s mass ascension at the 52nd annual International Balloon Fiesta in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Albuquerque’s Host City balloon

Hundreds and hundreds of traditional, racing, and special shape hot air balloons took flight this morning as part of this magical event.  The 2024 edition, which started back on October 5th continues through this Sunday, October 13th.

Up, Up, and Away

If you've ever driven through the Napa Valley in the early morning there is a big chance that you've seen hot air balloons gracefully floating through the valley. The winds in the valley are generally calm in the morning and they pick up in the afternoon. So if you do want to see the balloons in the valley you have to be up early.

Up, Up, and Away This is a closeup image of three hot air balloons lifting off from the Napa Valley. The front balloon started up just before the other two lifted off. This balloon has what I would consider a smaller basket that only held a small group of people. The ballons are all various colors, including blue, yellow, green, and red. The front ballon is laid out in a checkerboard pattern. The ones behind have more of a vertical stripe pattern.

Balloons In The Desert

Balloons In The Desert was captured early in the morning with low summer light. This lighting made the balloon colors pop against the clear blue sky. The quality of light brought out the desert background and blended nicely with the yellows/golds of the balloons.

Balloons In The Desert This is an image of hot air ballons being inflated at the Reno Ballon Races in Reno, NV. This is a close-up view of several hot air balloons in various stages of inflation. Three of the balloons are still lying horizontal. A fourth one behind is starting to move to an upright position. The balloon that is framing the right side of the image is vertical and the last one in the back is just starting to lift off into the sky. The balloons have many colors and patterns from stripes to checkerboard and other colorful patterns including a lot of yellow, red, orange, green and purple.

Was trying to find photographs of something in my huge mass of digital images, and came across this one. Nothing special, but it was more than 10 years ago, near our last home in #Florida.

This was just after dawn, and we would see the #HotAirBalloons quite often, even in the summer. In the winter we'd hear them before we'd see them, since the windows would be open... Really kind of miss this.

Quite a darkish sky, about 7AM in July. A colorful hot air balloon is the only thing maring a cloudless view, just beginning to turn white/yellow at the horizon. The bottom of the photo is edged in weird Florida trees and palm trees, with a bit of a house thrown in.
