Even with the chilly temps, and dawn happening about 6:50am local time, there has been a very obvious increase in morning birdsong in the hour to either side of sunrise in the last two weeks.
The Eastern Redbud tree in front of the house has kept its seed pods all winter. At some point in March, it will produce a pink-purple flower that grows directly from the main branches and covers the whole tree surface in a way that is described attractively. I am curious to see this.
Counting today, the forecast says six days over freezing. After weeks of deep freeze, the break is most welcome.
Tomorrow is forecast to be a high of 19F (-7.2C) and a low of 13F (-10.5C), feeling colder with the wind chill. Flurries will be off and on.
I have two chores it would be helpful to do Friday day, and they are not really near one another so I may just cleat and uncleat as needed, and go have an arctic adventure.
Went out to my body work appointment. There’s a layer of thin snow over crunchy ice in a lot of spots but it was patchy enough that cleats were not a good option. Like with snow chains on tires, you need a good coating of snow to make them work right.
Although really brutal on the thermometer, it was sort of pleasant to walk outside. I should cleat up and hoof around the next time we get some fresh snow. The frozen creek is beautiful.
