My 16yo wanted ethernet in his room, in order to get better #networking (latency & throughput) on his PS5. He contacted a family-friend whose company does this kind of thing. This was all while I was abroad (family medical issue). When I got back, it was in the final stages of getting arranged. I then suggested we use a #MoCA bridge instead, considering there is already a coax point in his room, and the coax cables all converge where our router is. Did so, and boom: 940mbps up&down and 6ms ping!

Started at 5/31 11am ET. We’ll see how fast this baby moves on a 12yo #MacMini using #ProtonVPN & gigabit #fios through a #glinet #AXT1800 router, a CAT6-connected AP, a #MoCA -connected AP, & finally CAT6. It’s a circuitous route, I know, but these are the limitations of a 74yo house.

FWIW speeds right now are slower than usual: 174 Mbps down, 178 up. Usually in the 500-600 range. Maybe it’s the age of the #Mac, or I’m splitting between the #Ente & speed test?

He must have been thinking of the #MoCA question that asks you to start with the number 100 and subtract 7 (93) and then subtract 7 again (86) and so on.
