Der neuste #NealStephenson-Roman taugt mir wieder, nachdem »Termiation Shock« und »Fall, Dodge in Hell« für mich seine bisher schwächsten Titel sind. »Polostan« ist Teil 1 des ›Bomb Light‹-Zweiteilers und erzählt die Geschichte Dawn ›Aurora‹ Rae Bjornberg, Tochter von Anarcho-Cowboys die abwechselnd in USA und Petrograd aufwächst und dann in Great Depression Waffen schmuggelt. Bin ca 1/3 weit drinn. Bisher ist nix passiert und es ist dennoch auf ›typische Stephenson-Art‹ hübsch kurzweilig.

#FinishedReading this great mess of a book. The first act is a nearly plot-free wall of exposition that I only stuck with because I've enjoyed other #NealStephenson before. The second act, with its focus on the character of Nell and her 'magical' book, really clicked me for me and sucked me in. And then the final act was an avalanche of plot developments and the characters went missing. Disappointing. #Bookstodon #SciFi @bookstodon

I read #Polostan, the new #NealStephenson novel that opens a planned series, Bomb Light. About flesh-and-blood people in messy history on Earth, so not another Seveneves or Fall, thank Goddess. Sadly not a new Baroque Cycle either, yet, but it ends abruptly at a point where you’d expect Stephenson to really get into his stride over the next ~400 pages, so we’ll see. Definitely want to see where it goes next, something I was less sure of with Termination Shock.

New Neal Stephenson book "Polostan" finally arrived. I've been waiting for this one for a while.

It's noticeably thinner than his usual tomes so either he got an aggressive editor or he's splitting his usual size book into multiple releases.

I don't normally go out of my way for signed copies, but the price was the same for signed (Bookplate style) at B&N as it was for unsigned elsewhere.

Any Neal Stephenson fans here? I've read Reamde, Fall, Snowcrash, and I'm currently reading The Diamond Age.

I was largely disappointed by the digital bits of Fall but the meatspace stuff was incredible. The whole thing with Moab feels aptly pertinent in hindsight. I was reminded of it reading about the FEMA crap going on and misinfo elsewhere.

I am re-reading by . First time trough was audiobook and I stopped in the middle for about 2 years. (Spoiler alert) I thought of Julia as the baddie. I'm older now, and reading from a book. I'm consciously trying to read it with Julia not as the baddie. Books like this, that have multiple perspectives, are awesome!
