I call it maize.

"Even before the constitutional reform, it was mostly illegal to plant modified corn in Mexico thanks to a 2013 lawsuit brought by farmer activists. But experts say it still happens. And they say the presence of engineered seeds and corn in Mexico threatens the vast diversity of maize crops here, which span from burnt orange to purple and pink and which have been adapted over centuries to be grown at different altitudes and climates."

5/8 🔬🧩 The simulated Kd values for the Evening Complex binding overlapped with the empirical data on its DNA-binding protein LUX ✅

Simulated CCA1/LHY bound much less tightly than its measured Kd. Likely, the plant regulates these proteins in ways we haven’t modelled: future research directions!

We point to lots specific hypotheses, data and knowledge gaps, see Dataset EV1. We’re not pursuing any of them.

"Some of these fixed genotypes are presumably as old as the Roman period," says Nicholas Howard, a geneticist at Fresh Forward in the Netherlands who has drawn heavily on the collection at Brogdale Farms in his research. The Romans, when they invaded the British Isles two millennia ago, are said to have brought domesticated apples with them.

Hey #PlantScience people. Can you suggest some #books to get back into the subject?

I completed two years of an undergrad degree in PlantSci at the start of the 90s, so I'm comfortable with #biochemistry at the level of the Calvin-Benson cycle, redox reactions, cytochromes and all that jazz.

Other stuff I'm interested in: #SoilScience, #PlantPathology, #PlantPhysiology, general #Microbiology and #PlantGenetics (transgenic toms were all the rage where I studied).

Rec me some reading! #BookRec
