Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will visit South Africa next month, the South African Presidency said on Thursday.
“President Zelensky will be visiting #SouthAfrica on the 10th of April,” said Presidency spokesperson Vincent Magwenya.
“The visit is a continuation of ongoing engagements held by President [Cyril] Ramaphosa with President Vladimir Putin and President Zelensky on an inclusive peace process that will provide a path to peace between #Russia and #Ukraine,” he added.
Ukraine has long-awaited an invitation for a state visit from SA.」

“This year, we have the opportunity to host the G20. It will manifest itself in about 130 meetings. Some of these meetings will happen here in Gauteng,” said Ramaphosa.
“As these meetings happen, it is the opportunity for Gauteng to gear up, to demonstrate that we did not make a mistake by choosing Gauteng to host the G20 meeting.
“We were correct in choosing Gauteng, #Johannesburg, to be the host of the G20. Gauteng must showcase itself to the world. It must be at its best in terms of the physical presentation and environment. Let us make our metros presentable.”
Ramaphosa also talked tough with the executive when he expressed his disappointment with the environment, which he said was not pleasing.
“Sometimes it’s good to be direct and say it as it is; I should say that one or two meetings of the G20 that I attended here were not very pleasing.
“The environment that one observed was not a pleasing environment. I say this so that we can improve immensely,” said Ramaphosa.
He called on the executive to address the governance failures, financial #mismanagement, crumbling infrastructure, #crime, lawlessness and unreliable #ServiceDelivery that are destroying Johannesburg.
G20 routes
Last week, Joburg mayor Dada #Morero faced backlash for saying the city’s clean-up campaign would prioritise G20 routes.
The mayor said: “We have prioritised certain routes within Johannesburg, which are G20 routes, to ensure that at least we can make them at the standard at which they should be. No #potholes, no traffic signals that are not working.”」

「Ramaphosa assures Jewish community Pretoria won’t sever ties with Israel, but condemns Gaza ‘genocide’
#Jewish community leaders have said that President #Ramaphosa has reassured them that Pretoria does not intend severing diplomatic ties with #Israel.
In a meeting with the community leaders, Ramaphosa also denounced anti-Semitic behaviour towards Jewish people in #SouthAfrica — “including the boycott of Jewish-owned businesses” — as well as #Islamophobia. He also condemned #Hamas for its attack on Israel on 7 October and demanded it return the Israeli hostages it took in that attack and is still holding.
Leaders of the South African Jewish Board of Deputies (#SAJBD) and SA Zionist Federation (#SAZF) said after meeting Ramaphosa on Wednesday that he “re-iterated #Dirco’s public position that there was no intention to sever diplomatic ties between Israel and South Africa.”
This position appeared to contradict the #ANC support of a resolution passed in Parliament last month calling on Pretoria to sever relations with Israel because of its bombardment of #Gaza. The government had indicated already that it regarded this resolution as purely advisory and was not obliged to implement it. But the SAJBD’s statement was the clearest sign that it does not intend doing so.
