Once again the head of this Republican administration spoke in favor of raising taxes on the wealthiest earners as part of his “big, beautiful bill.” Please lean hard on this statement regarding the budget reconciliation process. Make it clear that there is no need for draconian cuts to the poorest Americans when the wealthy, particularly those who travel by private jet and mega-yacht, have money to spare.

The proposal released Sunday night incorporates new mandates that will likely force states to revamp how they finance their programs or cut benefits. The health provisions also include new work requirements that are expected to lead many people to lose coverage, as well as a new cost-sharing requirement for some beneficiaries in the program, not to exceed five percent of a patient’s income.

Please remind your Republican colleagues that to a person struggling to survive on the $30,000 they make each year that 5% is a huge amount. The rich can afford to lose 5% of their income. The poor cannot.

Tax the wealthy, support the poor. We are counting on you to keep the pressure on so that no child goes without healthcare and no child goes to bed hungry. Give America's children the future they deserve and let the poor keep every penny they earn. Tax the rich, please!

I saw Elon Musk’s desire to abolish intellectual property and I am asking you to take a stand on behalf of every author, poet, screenwriter, musician, video game developer, and playwright who has ever created anything by the power of their own brain.

I am asking you to protect US copyright laws against the incursions of DOGE. I saw that this Republican Administration on Friday fired Shira Perlmutter, the Register of Copyrights, after her office earlier this week issued a lengthy report that questioned the use of copyrighted materials by AI technology.

These moves undermine our leadership in the creative and intellectual arts, and they represent a power-grab over all aspects of our lives.

Please join the effort led by Rep. Joe Morelle to fight back against these efforts to allow Musk to steal our intellectual property.

You know that 1 in 5 Americans count on Medicaid for health care. That includes 40% of our children and 60% of nursing home residents. More than 42 million of us, and 1 in 5 kids, can put food on the table thanks to SNAP.

Rep. Brendan Boyle (D-PA) has introduced a discharge petition that would force a vote on legislation blocking cuts to Medicaid and SNAP in reconciliation. We need 218 signatures to get to the floor. This is obviously unlikely to produce direct results, but it’s also a valuable opportunity to force everyone in the House on the record as to where they really stand on these crucial safety net programs and for us to continue to emphasize to our lawmakers what’s at stake for regular people in this fight.

Selling out the poor to pay for tax cuts for billionaires is not acceptable. We are asking you to fight for us. Please sign the discharge petition and commit to opposing cuts to Medicaid and food assistance.

House leadership of this Republican Administration has delayed its reconciliation markups until the week of May 12. National pushback on Medicaid cuts seem to be having an effect, so I want to remind you to keep up the pressure.

The proposed cuts to Medicaid would not spare anyone. Rural hospitals would go bankrupt. Communities would suffer, because young people will not live where they can't get medical care. Hospital staff would lose their jobs and be forced to move where they can find work. Children would lose healthcare. Farmers would face the loss of their farms with one medical emergency, because so many farmers do not earn enough money to purchase private insurance.

But it is clear to those of us reading the news that this Republican Administration does not think that some people "deserve" healthcare. You can see it in the comments of the Mississippi governor, who has said on numerous occasions that healthcare should be for those taxpayers who have earned it.

Please continue to fight against the Medicaid cuts proposed by this Republican Administration. Find other places to cut the Republican budget. Get loud about these alternate places to cut the budget. The wealthiest Americans, those who travel by private jet and helicopter, those with multiple homes in multiple states, do not need another tax cut more than the workers of America need healthcare.

This Republican Administration is asking for $45 billion for immigration detention centers, $8 billion to hire thousands of immigration enforcement officers, and more than $14 billion for deportations while cutting more than a billion from food assistance to the poorest Americans.

During the budget reconciliation process, please be very loud about what the March cut of $500 million from the Emergency Food Assistance Program and the additional $500 million cut to the USDA Local Food Purchase Assistance Cooperative Agreement Program is doing to rural America.

Remind them that ICE does not need $45 billion. They can take a small cut to their proposed budget so that Americans don't go to bed hungry.

U.S. Rep. Joaquin Castro has filed a resolution that, if passed by the House, would require the Trump administration to turn over all records about its deportations of migrants to prisons in El Salvador. I am asking you to support this resolution in every way you can. Give press conferences, post about it on social media, go on Fox News to talk about it -- anything to help highlight this resolution.

In his statement, Rep. Castro noted that this Republican Administration has provided no legal and legitimate justification for the unfounded deportation of individuals to El Salvador’s most brutal prisons. A recent 60 Minutes investigation found that the "overwhelming majority" of people sent to El Salvador had no apparent criminal convictions. News story after news story has reported on people being rounded up for being in the wrong place at the wrong time, and then labeled as a gang member by a twice-fired Wisconsin police officer on contract with ICE as a "lead investigator."

Please shed light on the agreements signed by this Republican Administration that created this deportation nightmare and help bring it to an end.

Due process applies to all persons. This Republican Administration is defying the Constitution, and we cannot let this persist.

I understand that this Republican Administration wants to encourage more people to get married and start families.

Here's what will accomplish that goal:
--One year paid maternity leave
--Free, universal preschool
--Low-cost universal #healthcare

Every young person I know is limiting the size of their families because they cannot afford the time off work that comes with a new family and they cannot afford childcare. Implementing those two initiatives would help double the birth rate. Add to that low-cost healthcare and you would see happy large families.

Please make it clear to this Republican Administration that anything else won't accomplish the mission -- these three initiatives will. I am certain you would have no problem finding enough young, struggling families to fill a hearing on the realities of how difficult it is to find good, affordable childcare, on how difficult it is for new moms to go back to work, sometimes as often as six weeks after giving birth, and how expensive it is to give birth, even with good health insurance.

Please hold a hearing on the struggles faced by young families so that this Republican Administration understands what working families need the most. Then write the legislation to make it happen.

Please schedule time to visit our state's ICE prison to inspect the facility and talk with people being held there. While you plan your visit, please read the 2024 study by Eric Gallant of Seton Hall University, "The Constitutionality of the Privatization of the Prison Industry."

In 2023, 90.8 percent of people detained by ICE were held in private prisons. The ABA notes that private prisons should be the last resort, and that the government should be held accountable for their justification in putting people in the hands of private corporations.

I am asking you to be part of that accountability. The news is full of stories about what people experience in private ICE prisons -- thin mats in cages with no privacy, constant cold temperatures with no way to keep warm, lights on constantly that deny people the ability to sleep. And while doing this, these private companies are earning a profit. CoreCivic earned $68.9 million in profits in 2024, GeoGroup earned $31.9 million.

If you are denied access, please hold a large press conference outside. Congress allocated the money that is allowing these corporations to earn their profits. Congress has a right to see how the money is being spent.

A U.S. intelligence assessment found no coordination between Tren de Aragua and the Venezuelan government, contradicting statements that officials of this Republican Administration have made to justify their invocation of the Alien Enemies Act. The new classified assessment from the National Intelligence Council repeatedly states there was a consensus that there was no coordination or directive role between gang and government.

This assessment undercuts the justification this Republican Government is using to round up and deport undocumented persons without due process.

It is time to hold very public hearings, if not in Congress, on the steps of Congress, to bring all these issues succinctly into the public eye.

Document each person who has been rounded up. Highlight the ones picked up for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Name the ICE officials approving them on the list for deportation. Shed a very public light on the faulty legal justifications. Help flood the ICE holding centers (which by now you should have visited in person) with lawyers to represent those threatened with deportation without due process.

This Republican Administration does not have the authority to use the Alien Enemies Act against a criminal gang rather than a recognized state. Congress has not declared war, so we are not at war.

I am asking you to be a very public part of the solution.

This Republican Administration keeps saying they have classified information indicating all of the disappeared persons are terrorists or gang members. I am asking you to assign a staffer with the appropriate clearance to examine the records of each person being detained. We cannot see the data, but you can. I cannot think of anything more important right now than shedding light on the "evidence" this Republican Administration is using.

I read about ICE agents arresting the wrong teen and being told “Take him anyway,” only to have him end up in El Salvador. At age 19, with no criminal record, no tattoos, and a scheduled date for his asylum hearing

I read about Juan Francisco Méndez, 29 an undocumented man with no criminal record, who told the federal agents surrounding his car that his lawyer was coming. Rather than wait and have to deal with a lawyer, they smashed his car window and dragged him from the car. His wife does not know where he is right now.

I am asking you to look at the "evidence" and let the world know the truth.

This #Republican Administration views #healthcare as a means to enrich corporations, and I want you to be loud and clear about a few specific things:

--Last week's boost of Medicare Advantage reimbursement rates is about boosting corporate #profit. Each year, #MedicareAdvantage plans cost taxpayers $83 billion more than Traditional #Medicare. This extra cost goes mostly to the private companies who administer these programs. These programs promised our government they would lower costs, then didn't. Giving these companies more in reimbursement will not improve health or shore up rural hospitals. It will enrich already rich insurance companies. In their budget reconciliation they are going to cut Medicaid. The poor will face cuts to their healthcare while the insurance companies rake in more money.

--Companies facing tariffs on medications or precursors for medications will pass these costs onto consumers. The companies will make money while millions of Americans each day face the dilemma of paying for food or paying for medications. This tariff whiplash caused by the Republican Administration cannot include medications or their precursors.

Please fight for the elderly and the working poor. Please talk about these issues every day, particularly with news media in Republican-voting parts of the state. Side with the people, not corporations.

Dear Senator --

The House of Representatives passed the SAVE Act, which requires every American citizen to provide a passport or an original copy of their birth certificate in person when registering to vote or anytime they update their voter registration.

Please talk about how many people this law would disenfranchise. The working poor would have to take time off from work, losing out on pay to get their paperwork in order. People who have misplaced their original birth certificate or marriage license (to prove a name change) would have to spend hours trying to track down a replacement.

This bill would especially burden military voters, tribal voters, rural voters, survivors of natural disasters, and the tens of millions of married women in America who have changed their names.

Members of the US Military could not even use their military ID to register to vote, unless it is accompanied by their military service record AND that record shows they were born in the US. Members of the military born overseas, including while their parents were serving abroad, could not use this type of ID.

We know that many Republicans love this bill, so please, use whatever procedural means you can to delay this vote and use the delay to explain to the American people what this vote means for them.

You must stand firm in your resolve for the American people.

Show the American people that you are tracking the costs and that you care.

Every time you are in front of the news media and every time you post on social media, please give specific numbers demonstrating how the tariffs of this Republican Administration are hurting your constituents.

Please highlight the unserious manner with which the tariffs were enacted, and be sure to refer to them as the "tariffs of this Republican Administration," as the Republican Party could put a stop to all of this if they chose to do so.

And regarding all the social media memes on the tariffs, putting tariffs on uninhabited islands and on Diego Garcia might seem like a reasonable subject to joke about, but in truth, they demonstrate the high level of disregard this Republican Administration shows for the American people.

The Social Security Administration is on its 3rd acting commissioner since November. The acting commissioner who left in November raised alarms about a potential system collapse, and the acting commission who left in February refused to allow Musk to access the databases containing the personal data of nearly every American.

And now Musk is claiming to rewrite the code underlying Social Security in just a few months?

By all accounts, the Social Security Administration is about to collapse, and this Republican Administration is allowing an unserious, unskilled person to meddle with the systems on which our nation's elderly, disabled, and orphans rely to keep roofs over their heads.

I worry this is their plan-to gut Social Security to collapse, then claim that the only way to fix it is to privatize it. Republicans have talked about this idea for years.

You must fight this. Call for hearings and investigations. Stall the work of Congress until you get full transparency.

We cannot let this Republican Administration undermine Social Security. Remind every one of your colleagues that while these rich Republicans in Congress don't worry about their next Social Security check, millions of ordinary Americans do. Be very vocal about what you know of their plans and how much your constituents object to their plans.

I watched the video of the young Tufts student taken by masked men as she left her apartment. No badges, no warrants, no official jackets with logos. To her, they were large, faceless people kidnapping her and I can't stop thinking about that moment of abject fear. Can you imagine yourself in her shoes?

I saw the photographs the Homeland Security Secretary took in the prison in El Salvador and I was sickened. A member of this Republican Administration thinks a prison known for harsh treatment of inmates, a place that resembles a concentration camp is a place to take a photo.

I've read too many stories about the conditions in the privately run ICE prisons here in the US. The temperatures are too cold. The lights never go off. Begging officers for help and getting no response.

How do we fix this? How do we restore due process and the rule of law when this #Republican Administration has been given immunity by the #SupremeCourt How do we bring back decency to the American people?

I have no answers, so I can only ask the questions.

I am truly horrified.

The Local Food Purchase Assistance and the Local Food for Schools programs supported both schools and farmers, creating new markets, and giving kids and those who depend on food banks access to healthier food. U.S. Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins described these programs as "nonessential," showing just how out-of-touch this Republican Administration is with ordinary people. The Association of State Departments of Agriculture noted that the Ag Secretaries of every state in this nation lobbied in support of these two programs. These were nonpartisan programs that helped people in every state.

Please make sure everyone knows that this Republican Administration is taking healthy food away from children and the poor to fund tax cuts for the rich.

Holding town halls typically falls to Representatives, but because many Republicans are not holding town halls, I am asking you to hold them in Republican-leaning parts of the state. Do it jointly with the local Representative. If they don't show up, hold it without them.

Your messages must be clear -- This Republican Administration is not working for the people, they are working for the billionaires. Talk about their specific policies that are hurting ordinary Americans, without asking for any comparable "belt-tightening" from millionaires and billionaires. Talk one-on-one with the farmers who depend on undocumented workers to do the jobs that American citizens don't want to take. Learn from them what they want to see in a guest worker program so that they have the hard workers they need to stay in business and keep us fed.

Talk about specific policies you want to implement that would help Republican-leaning voters. Make it personal and make it specific.

Make this a regular part of your schedule. Call into local radio stations in Republican parts of the state to share your views. Show up at the local VFW, the Kiwanis, the Rotaries. When you can't be there in person, send your staffers so that the local Republican-leaning parts of the state know that you are listening to their views.
