#CBDCs

I’ll be honest: I still think central bank digital currencies (#CBDCs) are nonsense. Digital currencies and #cryptocurrency are inefficient solutions but inefficient in order to be independent, distributed, without central control. So the whole notion of having one which is controlled by a central bank is an oxymoron and adds very little end user value.

Happy to be proven wrong, happy to hear what the case is. But it’s 17 years since #bitcoin launch and CBDCs have had zero impact.

🏦 Even central banks are losing faith in #CBDCs | @financialtimes

"governments and central banks would have to agree on who to license as authorised CBDC dealers. Regulators would have to oversee their dealings, ensuring that their inventories of the relevant CBDCs were adequate. Central banks would have to stand ready to act as liquidity providers of last resort. All this would require the equivalent of the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision, but on steroids"

@olson.walter I'm #libertarian leaning &I have NO faith that former Pres #Trump would follow through with things like leaving #Cryptocurrency alone. When he first mentioned it, it sounded like he supported #CBDCs, until someone told him we don't like that. He'll say anything. He's openly supportive of dictators who rule "with an iron fist." I would not vote for VP #Harris if there were a viable libertarian candidate, but Kamala Harris is far-and-away the best choice for libertarians.

What some in the #cryptocurrency space fail to recognize when it comes to:

  • looming threat of #CBDCs
  • hyperinflation of the dollar
  • ongoing genocide in the Middle East
  • hijacking of Congress by AIPAC
  • persecution of software developers like @FreeAlexeyRoman, @rstormsf

ALL of these things are connected and lead back to the same special interest groups.

You cannot fight one of these problems in isolation. They are all tied together!

You must fight them all!

Something feels forced about the transition away from cash in Australia. Someone I know received a letter from the bank saying they have three months before they can no longer use their cheques! Due to "a rise in digital payment methods".

Am I the only person on fediverse in #Australia who thinks a digital payment methods are overrated?

Do we need to think twice about purging tokens like cash and cheques from our monetary system? What do vulnerable groups and minorities think of digital payment and surveillance systems?

@ksaj A "central bank digital currency" is not Bitcoin. Bitcoin and #CBDCs are very different things. Blocking the creation of a CBDC does nothing to #Bitcoin. Bitcoiners in general are against CBDCs as one of the greatest modern threats to privacy and individual economic autonomy. FWIW nobody can stop Bitcoin, it is the most secure digital network in human history and completely decentralized. The US could "ban it" and the next block would still arrive on time. It's truly a global currency
