Finland’s Minister of the Interior, Mari Rantanen, visited the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone.

Rantanen met with emergency responders who spent 490 hours repairing the damage caused by a Russian drone attack on the shelter over the 4th reactor unit of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, which took place on February 14.

"Scientists are still debating how long-term radiation exposure may or may not be impacting the genomes of surviving creatures and their offspring in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone, the sealed-off, Yosemite National Park-sized area surrounding the plant. After all, it’s tricky to nail down the relationship between radiation exposure and changes in different organisms. Unlike the tidy conditions in a lab, real-life locales like the 19-mile radius Exclusion Zone come with all kinds of compounding factors.

(. . .)

The free-breeding dogs that roam the Exclusion Zone, which may have descended from abandoned pets, could offer some clues about radiation exposure and genetic changes. In a 2023 study, scientists showed that dogs living in the Exclusion Zone are genetically distinct from nearby communities of dogs. But according to new research published in December 2024, which Breen collaborated on, those differences likely weren’t just a result of radiation, as some experts had suspected.

So if the dogs of Chernobyl aren’t experiencing rapid evolution due to the direct effects of radiation, what is causing it?"

The State Emergency Service of Ukraine has reported that radiation levels at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, which was attacked by a Russian drone last Friday, remain within normal limits.

The situation is being continuously monitored using drones with thermal cameras and handheld thermal cameras. All relevant services are on-site.

Here’s an example of #Chernobyl Gorton numbering: imgur.com/j4OAjjG

How to read my clock:

The digits are “printed” and unchanging. The time is told via just 4 lamps.

The top lamp is the hour parity: lit for an odd hour. (Your time sense can figure it out from there—really!)

The other 3 lamps are the minutes (within a few minutes).

- Any one lit is obvious: approximately 15, 30, 45.

- Zero lit : around 00.

- Multiple lit: read the number BETWEEN them. Example: all 3 lit = around 07.

The State Emergency Service of Ukraine reported that as of February 19, radiation levels at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant remain within normal limits following a Russian drone attack.

Rescue workers continue efforts to partially open the sarcophagus structure to extinguish smoldering fires.

The State Emergency Service of Ukraine reported that the radiation background at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant does not exceed permissible levels. The situation is continuously monitored using a drone equipped with a thermal imaging camera.

Chornobyl Fires!

Three more smoldering fires have been detected at the shelter of the Chornobyl NPP, the State Agency of Ukraine on Exclusion Zone Management reported.

"Work on fire suppression has been resumed: three smoldering points have been found," the agency wrote.

It is specified that the insulation layer of the shelter roof is smoldering. The consequences of the drone strike are being eliminated by three groups, including two teams of climbers.
