3 years ago now, I had the extreme pleasure by the trust afforded me from a mostly feral friend we helped to raise these amazing fluffy balls of awesome. Once old enough for their shots and checks we found them a wonderful loving family who recently lost their fur friend for a forever home for them together. They are siblings to our void best friend Doom Kitty who has 473 job titles here on the farm and is a regular in my #fedifarm posts

Happy #caturday and stay vertical out there friends.

Some #soilspondence from a sunny day I mostly worked on firewood and slashed comfrey for orchard and compost feeding.

The bumbles were LOVING the flowering oregano. We've already cut 2 crops for drying so we are happy to have it flower for the apian allies. Be bee friendly!

Quince and pears putting on some size.

Crimson clover and friends in some #cottagecore rows of food, medicine and fodder for the bees and the people.

Stay vertical. Garden hard!

The place has been under seige of late. Head of Security Doom Kitty [not pictured today] and I were up most of the night hunting. Managed a wee nap then pushed to get out in the cooler mostly overcast day for many field chores.

Please enjoy some colour and greenery from the rounds as we enjoyed the chorus our apian allies.

Garden hard!

Today's #soilspondence doing some tidy up and planting in the main greenhouse.

Horticulture supervisor Doom Kitty advised me of all the tomato side shoots needing trimmed.

Got a full rack of trays seeded with cutting salads and herbs and other things for autumn and winter garden.

Name that leaf?

Figs!

Garden hard.

When we have tiny garlic that probably won't make useful size cloves/bulbs we just go ahead and plonk them somewhere nothing else is going on, or even in some pots because you might still get something usable and/or left to carry on they will do this. Before they open up (scapes) can be sauted or pickled and the flowers are tasty in salads and sammies, insect ally friendly, and a rather dashing splash of bonus colour to boot.

From today's work in the sun.

Splashes of colour, mixed flowers in an amenity and polinator bed.

Had the first apple of the season today. Delicious.

Farmer Doom Kitty always at my side for a break in the shade.

The current strip, a bit green from recent rains. Winds had it covered with bark and sticks so cleaned up. Don't tell my docs but I tossed and few overs in spite of pain and movement limitations. If I'm breathing, I'm bowling. RESIST!

Garden hard! Stay vertical.

It's that kind of a feed today I was motivated to just take resistance garden pics on morning chores.

Caught a lemon flower in a beam of sun.

One of the greenhouses getting wildly green.

Had raspberry overtake the latest raised bed of a previous years asparagus seed starts. Already ate from an established bed. Exposed these guys to find they were delayed by competition but healthy as!

Humble and hardy radish sprouts. Be mighty like radish!

Garden hard!

Didn't get much sleep last night. Greenhouse temp got down to around 5. Outside was waffling around 2! Flashbacks to some of last years 6 summer frosts that wiped out heaps and set us back so much. Not today happily.

Orchards and young field crops fine and was another sunny day pushing 40 in greenhouse. Wild.

Enjoy some early raspberries under and around figs in the greenhouse before things like tomatoes and cucumbers dominate the airspace.

From my rounds of the grounds yesterday. I wouldn't call it sage advice but I do advise sage even if in a pot in a small space. For serious even green varieties have many health and of course culinary uses, are bee friendly and I reckon handsome as! Being an awesome perenial I've lost track, probably over 100 transplants started from seed around are the place and have made lovely rows and clusters amongst other crops and trees.

Did I just down a martini way too fast? Yes. Did it make me feel better? Also yes. So I guess you folks get a half-sloppy edition of THREE GOOD THINGS™️!

what's this? a #soilspondence post?

Heaps more rain past couple days. It's well and truly mud season.

In between however, managed to knock up a couple rustic log hugle raised beds in the kitchen garden.

Berry canes have been pruned and the ground around them cleared and freshened up with mulchy compost and wood chips in between for a couple of the cages.

Floated a seasonal boardwalk between buildings to avoid sinking and slipping and tracking mud eerwhere.

This week had *hopefully* the last of the early summer frosts.

Couple sleepless nights staffing as many impromptu covers we could cobble and doing our best to leaf blow at 3am and disturb dew from freezing. Warms days though.

Sadly this year we've lost all cherries and plums. Apples, pears, starwberries and our main market crop raspberries have fought like hell and looking like xmas berries. A few in the greenhouse were taste tested today! Garden hard! #fediFarm #gardening #catsofmastodon

Continued thread

Some other light damage, but thank something we knew better than to trust a 2 degree low forecast for our elevation cause it was -4 at 3am when we were shifting things from the greenhouse that was close to 0, and re covering field crops. And a lovely clear night but because of all the sodden rain effect, it got crunchy out there.

Light damage, and unknown dealyed effect for some fruit, but we fight on.

Rough week. Rough night. Animal troubles. Weather troubles. No day job, troubles. Market crop losses. Cheers to the fedi music fam that bouyed me with support thru the night while out manually frost fighting at 12, 1, 4am.

Had already lost all 16 trees of cherry production. Last night everything was sodden from rain all day so it wasn't easy like brooming off snow as the other week, and we are too small scale to have blowers and fans and big sprayers.

keep fighting. Garden hard! #fediFarm

Regular reminder that bees are super rad. Be bee friendly! Even if you only have a few pots planted, chuck some pollinator friendly flowers or herbs or things in one. Might be sweet respite for a weary apian ally.

We like to keep bordering and marginal and not food friendly spaces in as much self sustaining wildflower, edible flower and flowering herb for as much of the year as possible for early, late and right on time pollinating friends.
