Emergency power is back after ~30 hours of downtime. Avalanche risk is still 5/5 and several have come down near Zermatt. One of the hotel staff was woken up by one coming at her house!

Some people had two cold nights but we’ve been warm and had a decent stock of food. Supermarkets got picked clean but we had stocked up before the trouble.

Partner does not function without tea so whilst we were sitting around doing nothing I made some using tea lights and a beer bottle. #Zermatt

Shelves picked bare in Migros Zermatt after it briefly reopened amidst the general power outages and snow storm.

Stood at Oerlikon, minding my own business towards the end of the platform and out of the way. Phone is on the gimbal, on the small tripod, upon a cabinet, doing a timelapse.

SBB Security come walking up the platform.

“Hello. Do you have permission to film from SBB?”

“Err no, I didn’t realise that was necessary?”

“Yes you need permission so I’ll have to ask you to stop filming”

“Okay, no problem”

My flight is at 17:05. I’ll go to the viewing area at Kloten Airport there then. In the meantime enjoy this, the last SBB video I recorded #ZerMatt

#ZerMatt First time travelling Giruno. Only a short journey from Zug nach Zürich HB but initial impression is a nice train.

Didn’t realise that they run in pairs through the Gotthard Basistunnel - not sure if it is a pair all the way from Milan or not. Certainly the train I’m on (EC150) is only a single unit north of Basel SBB heading to Frankfurt/Main Hbf.

Anyway: I walked down to the waterside whilst in Zug. It has a pretty view

I knew my run of good luck would end soon enough: I misjudged my timings and missed my connection to take me from Lausanne to Bern via Gstaad and Zweisimmen.

Oh well. Will probably do it on a return visit! So I’m going direct to Bern on some sort of double deck EMU from SBB. Might bring forward my plans for tomorrow to this afternoon. Who knows. Let’s be spontaneous? #ZerMatt

#ZerMatt Day 3 and after a ride on the TER Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes train to Évian-les-Bains it’s back to Switzerland on the CGN boat across to Lausanne! May as well sit out the back instead of sitting indoors. Everyone is so well wrapped up and here’s me in a t shirt, jeans and overcoat… No wonder people are looking at me like I’m some sort of oddity :blobcat_amused:
