In case anyone thought it was helpful to 'splain to me how the fediverse works:

- I know how it works.
- I am well aware that plenty of instances exist, and that one can move between them.

My issue is how a sensitive topic such as language was refused to be acknowledge, and reasonable requests to improve insensitive language also went unacknowledge.

The entire issue was reduced to "my server my rules." Which wasn't my issue.

I am going to start blocking people who toot to me about how the fediverse works and how I can go find another server. So please don't. It's unhelpful, at best.

@mairin You're a awesome person in my book, keep being yourself!

@mairin I get told all the time how it works, and how I’m a problem because I keep demanding that there be greater diversity. Apparently, “diversity” on the fediverse means “segregated servers.” 😑

@mairin "It's not what you say, but how you say it" is a cliché and often played for laughs, but it's mostly true. Had the guy responded like a normal person would - listen to your point, take everything into consideration, not act like a total ass - this whole thing would've gone down very differently. The outcome might still have been the same - you and others moving instances - but it would've been done amicably and on friendly terms, like how adults in the real world interact.

@mairin unfortunately, a lot of server rules are very openly replicating colonialism or… "just" white supremacy, even if they claim to be against racism, if not even antiracist.

@mairin I sympathize! I grew up in Quebec and Louisiana where the historical stigmatization of the French language was such that in Louisiana the cajun dialect is all but gone. In Quebec, due to laws put in places in the 60s-70s, the language is alive and well. If someone told me "that we speak english here", well... like I said, I sympathize. Solidarité.

@mairin Yeah, there could have been so many ways it could have been handled, like growing the moderation team (specially for very popular and neighboring languages like Spanish) and considering that it's unlikely to have much spam/abuse via minority languages as it's going to just be more efficient to do so in popular ones.
