It appears that since recently I'm sitting more often in the right seat. No matter if as PAX or PIC
And I tried and compared the A/C with the shortest and with the longest wingspan of our fleet.
Roll rate, stability and the relation of speed and lift are interesting
Our BZF Theory Class Session afterwards was also good fun. Just a few students this time but they seemed happy, I can tell.

@ikluft I experienced that during departure from AERO 2015 in Friedrichshafen EDNY. ATIS gives you all the instructions: Do not initiate radio contact with tower. They will call you when you taxi by the temporary AERO Tower shack.

In my efforts to plan a fly-out for my EAA chapter I made a spreadsheet of events with times, dates, distances, and ranked things based on availability, runway type, and so on. I specifically looked up every EAA chapter in Wisconsin to try and see what events they might be having and I think for our first fly-out I am going to propose we go support EAA Chapter 371 for their Pancake Breakfast and Car Show at C47 on May 25th.
If any of you are Wisconsin (or like long XCs) pilots I hope you'll drop in too and we can chat airplanes.

#AERO2025 in #Friedrichshafen activated my account for #slot booking this night at 4am local.
I can handle that. Unfortunately there were some errors and the system took some hours to be functional. Anyway, got my slot!
But I really have to consider if I like to do this any longer, as prices skyrocket!
That's 133 € including one ticket for the trade fair and if weather doesn't cooperate I am still stuck with 42 €. For nothing. Ok, we'll divide everything by two, as always, but still.
Anyway, going to an #AeroSpace event that takes place at an #Airport (#EDNY) by land is out of the question!

My night flight was a success. Launched shortly after sunset and flew to Wausau (KAUW) and past the ski hills. Then a jaunt back with a 30 knot tailwind making the return trip a lot faster.

Got to do my first flight in a month after there was finally a break in the winter weather and even got a bit of thermals on the way back!

Have any pilots / aviators heard from official sources how the NOAA layoffs will affect weather products?
Does anyone know someone at the FAA or NOAA who can say?

Just experienced my first real-life engine failure in #GeneralAviation!
Luckily, as pilots always say: "checklists save lives", which is why we were able to detect and identify the issue *before* take off.
During run-up, when I tested the first magneto, the RPMs immediately dropped 200 and then kept falling until the engine started choking. I turned it back on before it died completely. We tried again to reproduce the result and then called ground control for a return to the ramp.
The airstrip was just dry enough for me to get airborne today, so I went for a bimble.
Also spotted this which I'm guessing is going to be a new music venue, being built on the edge of St. Neots.

I took my mother down to Bessie's Diner in Janesville, WI (KJVL) for a birthday brunch. It has been snowing and otherwise bad weather here for a while so it was nice to fly again. (Check out those roads across the lake on the ice).
