in case you're unaware, GOOD INTERNET is an #indie print AND digital magazine that is run & contributed to by volunteers!

#goodinternet covers a lot of different aspects of the #SmallWeb: unplugging from the corporate web, fighting #enshittification, migrating from data-harvesting corpo social media, creating your own personal website, using code and website-building as an #art form, federation, and creating websites for fun. the aim is to be approachable for beginners and enjoyable for seasoned #indieweb travelers!

you don't have to be a pro #webdev or a #coding whiz to write about all the good things happening on "this side" of the web.

we want to spread the word about and share thoughts, independent web projects, services, methods, sites, meet-ups, and celebrate the non-corporate web together while making it easier for us to partake and unplug from #bigtech and unhealthy #socialmedia habits.

we're looking for 1,000- to 4,000-word articles aimed at website owners and hobbyists, any digital (and traditional) artists, #internet culture enthusiasts, #technology nerds, social media expatriates, & anyone who wants to unplug from the corporate-owned web.

I still share posts from people I follow on Substack, because I get the exhaustion that can come with constantly switching platforms and these people and their perspectives are meaningful to me. I never made much money at Substack, but if it’s a primary means of income it would be hard to leave—so yeah, it was relatively easy for me to stop using it as a creator a couple of years ago (and quit Patreon, too), but I understand why people haven’t yet.

This piece adds insights that, in addition to Substack’s recent billionaire purchase, make me even more glad I moved my creative writing elsewhere. I looked into Ghost, too, and still felt hesitation (perhaps because they use Stripe?—I don’t remember), so I’ve gone the Neocities route, giving up monetization for the most part. It’s a tough landscape out there at the moment. Happy to be in my Mastodon/Neocities bubble and building community in more interdependent ways.

Hmm ... tried to upload them all on #neocities and the upload front end converted all the `+` into whitespaces in the filenames. Legit enough except that when requested to show e.g. https://pppteam.neocities.org/blogthumbs/thumbs_files/i13971613-5-Screenshot_2021-01-25+MekaSkull+on+Twitter.png, it does not realise that it's the same than https://pppteam.neocities.org/blogthumbs/thumbs_files/i13971613-5-Screenshot_2021-01-25%20MekaSkull%20on%20Twitter.png ...

These SHOULD be same, right ?

Just set up an original comic on Neocities. The comic is like an MSPA/MSPFA - you get to tell the characters how to act and develop. The main page should hopefully get UI upgrades as time goes on, but it's serviceable right now.
I'm only on the first page - new panels will be added semi-regularly, you can check it out here!

Two things seem interesting immediately: it can do #markdown (so I could use Simple Markdown on my phone and blog during my commute!)

And you can map your site as a drive on your PC, totally compatible with the idea for the #SiteMaker idea I spoke about so many moons ago!
