@dizzy I have no idea what counts as “primary”, since most of my personal services on linux run in alpine containers, but half are on #synology’s unique distro, other half on #raspbian (a #debian); at work 25+ datacenters of #OracleLinux (a #rhel); but I’m also actively moving my raspbian & synology services to #freebsd; and I’m spending most of my free time trying to get useful at contributing to #illumos.

Would you believe my day job is as a technical project manager?

Since I'm on a RHEL-like server (AlmaLinux 9 in the Oracle Cloud) for this time running GoToSocial, I'm encountering new issues.

I couldn't get the gotosocial.service to start GtS automatically after a reboot. It would fail every boot.

But it would run fine when started from the terminal while the VPS was already running.

I tried a bunch of things, but what worked was a suggestion on Stack Overflow to slow things down in the gotosocial.service file.

I added this above the Exec line in gotosocial.service:

ExecStartPre=/usr/bin/sleep 10

Then I re-enabled the service, rebooted the system, and GtS was running automatically. No issues.

Here is the SO link: https://stackoverflow.com/a/44737570

And in case you want to learn more about GTS: https://gotosocial.org
