I'm looking to replace the extruder on my #Prusa i3 #reprap. Almost every part of this extruder was printed on this printer. I want a replacement that can do 1.75mm filament. I don't need awesome performance, or lots of bells and whistles, just something reliable and repairable.

My shortlist is a voron stealthburner, prusa nextruder, or an E3D roto. Any suggestions?

A recent project of mine has been to install a heated bed on my #3Dprinter. It went quite smoothly and it improved quite a lot the warping when I print #PLA. I used a solid-state relay that is kept in the bottom of the printer, inside a small box that I designed and printed myself. The results are very good! The warping is clearly reduced. It is not shown, but the wiring also contains a protection hearth wire for the aluminum plate. #3Dprinting #DIY #RepRap

#HotTake A second hand #3dprinter (open source variety) is worth more than a new one. I have a second hand, well aged #Ender3 and I wouldn't have change it for one straight out of factory if someone offered to swap. I got it modded, added some tiny but significant mods myself, like a kapton tape in some strategic places or a direct deivinator. It's a much better machine than a new one. It is worth more than a new one to anyone with a brain. I got it for 2/3 of the price. It's a steal. Buy used 3d printers, it's really worth it, they are immortal. Ofc I'm not talking about those closed sourced, gated bs machines. I'm talking about the good machines originating from #reprap ecosystem and project.

Hark! The beta testing period for 2.1.3 is almost over! We’ve been cleaning up, revamping, and optimizing the motion system to achieve higher acceleration and fix longstanding annoyances. Your existing #RepRap machines and #3DPrinters will seem brand new, and your future builds will be extra extra.

I don't suppose anyone in or near #rdguk wants a #reprap #3dPrinter ?

I built mine years ago, and I've barely used it since. It worked well, last time I used it, but it needs a bit of fettling if you want to print over the whole bed area (there's a bearing mounting that needs to be printed and fitted).

Community, DIY, open hardware and software has been part of the commodity #3Dprinting world for over 20 years (#RepRap et al.). Open projects, with parts you can source yourself or via kits (e.g. #Voron).

What if—what IF!
We did the same for plain old #2Dprinting..? I’d build a 2D laser printer from a kit.

(To be fair, I found a few resources and it seems like a daunting talk: lots of moving parts, optics, etc. 3D printers almost feel simpler, they’re just robots that push out hot plastic.)
