Did you guess the most recent #MyhsteryCoin? Several did, though all via email, probably because I forgot to post a reminder - Please do subscribe to the newsletter, because I really am quite forgetful! 😆🤦‍♂️ coinofnote.com/newsletter

So what was it? Why, it was the 1956 Spain 50 Centimos. One of my favourite coins! So much to explore! A hidden puzzle! Such a seafaring #History to get lost in :)

Last fortnight, I was determined to post at least SOMETHING other than the #MysteryCoin answer - and I did! It took the #railway theme to encourage me, but it worked (who doesn't love #trains?!) Here is the 1985 5 Deutsche Mark Eisenbahn in Deutschland: coinofnote.com/1985-5-deutsche

With a bit of a look at the train, the currency, the coin and the #German eagle!

It's been awhile since I caught up on #SaturdayNightCoinShow - and sure, it's Sunday, but we're nothing if not flexible :)

First up then, the #MysteryCoin from a few weeks (ahem, a month) back. A tricky one to guess - the eagle (an #African fish #Eagle) graced the reverse of the 1993 5 Dollars from #Namibia: coinofnote.com/1993-namibia-5-

Come discover the bird, the country and the coin!

Next, for #SaturdayNightCoinShow, another #MysteryCoin - this one is a lovely #Tactile piece, although I must admit, I know very little about the design! Can you #help please? The coin is an 1835-1910 Bhutan 1/2 Rupee, and despite my lack of info on the coin, I did compile some interesting details on the country for you: coinofnote.com/1835-1910-bhuta

One of my favourite metals is Bismuth. I found an excuse to write about it last year: coinofnote.com/1oz-bismuth-ing

If you enjoyed that, and are a little science-ey, you may like this video by The Action Lab on the strange #magnetism of #Bismuth: youtube.com/watch?v=g-77EcyI9i He does a lot of really interesting #science videos if you like that kind of content :)

#Numismatics #SaturdayNightCoinShow (Saturday Night #Metal show?)

I haven't written up anything new this week!

But I did venture out into the world and got one of my first King Charles III coins in change - and a coloured one at that. So, for #SaturdayNightCoinShow here is a $2 coin which was part of a series released by the Royal Australian Mint in 2024 commemorating the Australian team to the Paris Olympics.

What's the most interesting piece you've picked up in change recently?

On this day in 1653, the city of New Amsterdam was incorporated. Thanks to the band "They Might Be Giants", I instantly know that New Amsterdam is now called, New York.

Here is their song "Istanbul (not Constantinople)": youtube.com/watch?v=0XlO39kCQ-

And here is my Byzantine Follis I managed to squeeze in a reference to that song: coinofnote.com/518-27-justin-i

Exciting #avian news today for those who enjoyed my post on the Australian Ground #Parrots #Medallions set. ABC #news reports "Second-ever elusive night #parrot egg discovered in the Kimberley" (northern Western #australia.

Here is the news: abc.net.au/news/2025-02-01/sec

And here are the medallions: coinofnote.com/2024-australian

Since it's #AustraliaDay2025 I wanted to share something uniquely #Australian. What could be more fitting than the impressions version of the #Koalas in Danger #medallion covers from last year? I really liked those and was glad to see a single, larger cover for impressions: coinofnote.com/2024-koalas-in-

Coin World have an article on "A uniface bronze half-seer grain Relief token from 1876, during a famine in #India" which is up for auction. A "seer" was 1.25 kilograms (2.8 pounds) so this would have got you 625 grams or 1.4 pounds of grain and is the only known example of this type without a hole. Price estimate $2,500 - $3,500 USD: coinworld.com/news/auctions/ra
