One Wednesday evening I attended the opening night of the one-person trans play Overflow, which has returned to the Sydney Festival for its second year.

Was amazing to be among such a gender diverse crowd and to feel safe among unknown cis folks. We were even encouraged to graffiti the gender-inclusive loos! Had a chat at the mirror with the cutest drag queen who I then watched perform to the after party crowd enjoying free drinks and canapés.

Just out of Belgian theatre troupe #OntroerendGoed at #SydneyFestival. Like its title "Are we not drawn onward to new erA" the work is a theatrical palindrome. Halfway through, the piece turns and provides a perfectly symmetrical second half in reverse. And, it being slow theatre (though only 80 mins long) shows us how reversing #ClimateChange and the #Anthropocene must be, and can be changed, step by step. A beautiful image to end, the single apple tree that started the piece replanted and it's sole apple reattached.

An Evening Without Kate Bush
“Spellbinding” ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐

Howl with the ‘Hounds of Love’, dance on the wily, windy moors and let your inner ‘Babooshka’ run free in this glorious celebration of the irresistible forces and incandescent genius of Kate Bush and the fans who adore her.

A spellbinding, shape-shifting, communal spectacle for new and diehard fans alike.

'An epic new rock'n'roll theatre show celebrating the legacy and impact of Australian music icons, Warumpi Band, told from the perspective of founding members, the Butcher Brothers. From Papunya (a small town in the Northern Territory) to global stages, they sent Aboriginal culture worldwide in the 80s and 90s. With Blak anthems like Jailanguru Pakurnu, My Island Home and Blackfella/Whitefella, Warumpi Band amplified black voices and stories while unifying listeners through the power of rock’n’roll.'

Embracing the art of #Summer since 1977, #SydneyFestival is a city-wide celebration of culture, creativity and the questioning mind.

From the streets to the beach, in stately theatres and in secret basements, it animates locations across Greater Sydney with a trailblazing free and ticketed program of theatre, music, dance, visual art and all the experimental in-between places of live performance.

On the evening of 25 January we will gather along the shoreline of #Barangaroo Reserve and look out across the water towards Me-Mel (formerly Goat Island).

In 2023, the annual tradition of ‘Vigil’ takes on a new form, celebrating the re-awakening of the #spirit of this precious island, which has been a key landmark of #SydneyHarbour for several hundred years and a #SacredPlace for the clans of #Eora for tens of thousands.
