Still thinking about the brief moment in history where you could use (regional) trains and other public transport for 9€/month in Germany. What a time to be alive.
(They're slowly killing it off by making it ever more expensive (abt 60 €/month now) and also a subscription so we can all go back to rotting in car hell. Still, that feeling of just hopping onto buses and trains without caring about tickets …)
I always wanted to take this trip when we lived in the US but never could find the right time. After reading this piece, it feels like I didn’t miss anything.

My #TransitTuesday and #ClimateDiary entry today. For train enthusiasts this is a M3 train built about 40 years ago. This photo was made about 5 years ago but many are still in service. They are good for #photography because they don't have the high-back plastic bucket seats that limit sight lines of later carriages. Also, much more space for overhead storage than later and current models.

Electric trains are part of the #ClimateSolutions conversation. Much of the Long Island Rail Road System is electrified. But, sadly, much is not. Diesel trains are the rule further east on Long Island where electrification has not reached. Incredible!

Whenever I read news stories about dodgy taxis, or huge Uber surges, they always seem to quote an aggrieved passenger who actually lives somewhere served by train! For example, from the above article:
