Weekend's over and I managed to replace my dead #Mikrotik router for a #TurrisOmnia.

Great job, #Turris and #OpenWRT, this was the best experience I had with setting up a router to date! I managed to set up everything, including NAT quite easily and I even understand what I did.

So, my blog and other services should be up again. Do, please, let me know if anything does not work.

My old Mikrotik router just died and I am thinking of braving up and buying a #Turris #Omnia.

I would be very thankful if I could get some guidance from someone with experience before taking the (expensive) plunge.

@turris

P.S. Yes, that is the reason why my blog and other services are offline.

Continued thread

Story continues: #Turris factory reset (whose button did not work in the UI) followed by 4 hours of finding issues, re-configuring the setup, trying to debug why only some devices aren't getting IPs (still an issue!), finding out why "disable X" in Web UI has no effect, ... until I gave up. 👿

For the working devices, download bandwidth is still measured in kB/s and not in MB/s. 😩

Well, from my personal experience, I certainly can't recommend Turris devices. Especially when they cost so much that you get multiple(!) similar routers for the same money. 😔

My #Turris #MOX Classic not only refuses to update itself or to enable any optional module.

It now thinks that a few kB(!) of bandwidth ought to be enough for any host connected. (Probably some single connection mode issue.)

Yeah, internet feeling like in the early 90s. 😜

NixOS update for this week now runs over one hour and a half and it will continue to do so for quite some time I guess.

New #OpenWRT router device is now ordered for a fraction of the cost of the Turris.

Always back up all of your important devices!

A few years ago, I tried to replace my older #OpenWRT router with a newer #Turris device. So I disabled my reminder to manually back up the router config every few months.

Unfortunately, the Turris had lots of issues that were so annoying that after some months I switched back to my old router.

Now this old TP-Link router seems to have died yesterday and my most current router backup is three years old, missing out many important configuration changes. 😩

Well, that configuration (changes) are lost for good now. 😢

Omg! After an update, #Turris router enabled smtp honeypot on my router. I didn't notice until today. All mails over IPv4 was rejected. I don't know when it was enabled nor how many emails I have lost. This is huge problem. Config like this can't be enabled without any further notice. 😡
@turris

It is amazing to see how #Fediverse works. Last Thursday, I created an account for #Turris :turris: project - @turris and I thought that I will slowly set it up, prepare everything and then announce it. But some people found it in the meantime anyway (even though I explicitly disabled public listing on #Fosstodon). And once a post was out there mentioning that we have an account, information started to spread. So I finished the setup quickly and did an introductory post yesterday and it spread like wildfire. Amazing to see in a real-time boosts followed by new followers followed by another wave of boost... Today, we are going to announce the account on the #legacy networks as well. Let's see what effect will that have 😉
