The Dutch were already fucked, but now they are even more. But who cares about the Dutch, let's concentrate on the disasters going to happen in Bangladesh and other critical locations in the Global South.

Dr. Gilbz: *Antarctica might raise sea levels more than we thought*

youtube.com/watch?v=7THoXri-kd

"The West Antarctic is currently chucking a load of ice into the ocean, adding rapidly to sea levels. And now, three new scientific studies have shown that the ice sheets may be more sensitive to warming than previously thought. These new findings could revise our sea level rise estimates upwards. I spoke to Dr Alex Bradley, who was involved in two of these new studies, about what this means, and why it doesn’t mean we should give up on climate action. Speaking of which... "

Ocean water is rushing miles underneath the ‘#DoomsdayGlacier’ with potentially dire impacts on #SeaLevelRise

By Laura Paddison, CNN
Published May 22, 2024

"The #ThwaitesGlacier in #WestAntarctica — nicknamed the 'Doomsday Glacier' because its collapse could cause catastrophic sea level rise — is the world’s widest glacier and roughly the size of Florida. It’s also #Antarctica’s most vulnerable and unstable glacier, in large part because the land on which it sits slopes downward, allowing ocean waters to eat away at its ice.

"#Thwaites, which already contributes 4% to global #Sea Level rise, holds enough ice to raise sea levels by more than 2 feet. But because it also acts as a natural dam to the surrounding ice in West Antarctica, scientists have estimated its complete collapse could ultimately lead to around 10 feet of sea level rise — a catastrophe for the world’s #coastal communities."

Global Sea Level rise projections grossly under-estimated says major peer reviewed science #Cryosphere report, 'Two Degrees is Too High'. Report is by International Cryosphere Climate Initiative, estimates that 12 to 20 metres is likely from a 2C rise in temperature with eventual dissolution of most of Greenland, West Antarctica and parts of East Antarctica.

"We cannot negotiate with the melting point of ice."

The ground beneath #Antarctica's most vulnerable #glacier has been mapped for the first time, helping scientists to better understand how it is being affected by climate change. Analysis of the geology below the #Thwaites #Glacier in #WestAntarctica shows there is less sedimentary rock than expected—a finding that could affect how the ice slides and melts in the coming decades.
