@greg_r Funny! My first dog at about the same age was a German shepherd, too. Same -- lived a good long life, although we think he might have had a stroke once that he fully recovered from. And he was a pet store dog!

I think the breeding issues are mostly recent -- past 20-30 years? -- with people cashing in with a puppy mill mentality. It makes me sick. A friend of mine's daughter does this and I don't give a damn how cute the puppies are. It's WRONG.

Things about bunnies I learned about today:

1) Bunnies are far sighted. So they can see predators coming. (Was wondering why they sometimes didn't see treats in front of their nose.)

2) Bunnies can sleep with their eyes open. Also because... predators (Wondered why I would scare the daylights out of them even tho their eyes were open & I thought they had seen me coming.)

So you're considering adopting a dog or a cat this holiday season? And you understand that it will be at least a 15-year long commitment and you're ready for it?

Great!

The first thing you should do is go to your city or counties web page. Look for the link or page that says something like animal services, animal control. Or call city Hall.

Most city run animal control facilities are not no kill. Meaning most of these animals have a very limited time.

A dog is not just for #Christmas

Rather then buy 1 from an unknown dealer- with no guarantee the puppy is healthy or even socialised: go to a decent reputable rescue centre; one where they don’t euthanise healthy animals. Christmas is for dogs too
