Just watched Landward and learned, that #BlackCurrants need 2,000 h of below 7°C to develop a good crop with uniform ripening. This is a problem for farmers in Scotland today as it's not cold enough any more - in Scotland!
Similar applies to #apples and 1,000 #ChillingHours below 6°C.

@feinschmeckergarten Good ideas, i can see another "dry mulching" area is needed!. I also need to get better at timing planting to achieve density with companion #plants, which is difficult right now for me. Perhaps some lettuces would work with raspberries. Struggling to find listed anywhere suitable companions for #blackcurrants though. Bare soil under them looks so devoid of life!

This is this year’s black currant harvest. I’ll combine it with some raspberries I have in the freezer, sugar and a bottle of vodka to make berry vodka. Nothing better to have a taste of Summer later in the year!
