ex : être un mammifère = humain + animal = même qualité pour 2 référents différents.

“Show, don’t tell.” “Murder your darlings.” “Write every day.”

Certain pieces of advice are widespread in the writing community -- but what do they really mean?

Award-winning author @swan_tower tackles these old saws, dissecting each one to see what purpose it might serve . . . and when you should toss it aside.

honestly? I think I could do it. Only because being a therapist isn’t the same as being a social worker, friend, or coworker.

Depending on modality (especially Person-Centred / Humanistic), you can Socratic-Method someone in a guiding way, but you’re not reeeeally supposed to advise.
(I’m training, not qualified, mostly regurgitating this week’s topic notes.)

“Behavioural Experiments” in CBT is about (iirc, as NOT trained expert)
getting the person to first talk about the situation, then in any order:
notice their thoughts, feelings / emotions, bodily sensations, and behaviours.

I may vibe more with Psychodynamic (yes the freud one, no not the exact same, no not hypnotism, yes focused on how experiences inform inner monologue etc, I think).

.

I think Humanistic / Person-Centred is best suited for people who haven’t done much introspection yet, or haven’t felt empowered to fully explore their options.
(According to my class materials, this theory asserts that the client is the expert on their life and how to respond to situations.)

I think CBT is good for people who might know what they want but not how to get it, or need external structure, or have a discrete event or common situation they can’t resolve satisfiably.
(Class says both / all act as co-creators of meaning; I argue the counsellor is considered the expert, since they’re the one setting goals.)

.

I think (newer) Psychodynamics is better if you know what your daily challenges are, you’ve already depleted obvious responses and interventions, or you know you need dedicated time to unearth deep traumas or Complex PTSD.

For lurkers: c-PTSD doesn’t mean “interesting” or “harder”.
My definition is that the mistreatment
(anything beyond your ability to cope with what you had / knew at the time)
was repeated, often by a caregiver or someone with (real or perceived) authority, and with no reliable escape.

(InB4 someone says racism isn’t a mental illness, which is true!
But any definition of mental illness is socially or societal constructed and condoned.
Being gay was a mental illness within living memory.)

Mo Green
-- the Democratic nominee North Carolina State Superintendent of Public Instruction,
-- held a news conference Thursday at his party’s headquarters in Raleigh,
where he drew contrasts between himself and his Republican opponent,
-- Michele Morrow, who has suggested that
-- former President Barack Obama and other prominent Democrats be executed on television.

Democratic Party chairwoman Anderson Clayton said that Morrow’s remarks about executing Democratic leaders are “terrifying” and must not be tolerated.

Green, a former superintendent of Guilford County Schools,
noted that district’s academic gains under his leadership.

He said North Carolina is in a fight for the “soul of public education.”

“My opponent didn’t send her children to North Carolina’s public schools
and now she is encouraging others to do the same,”
Green said, referring to Morrow, who homeschools her children.

“She calls them indoctrination centers and would defund them by sending taxpayer dollars to unaccountable private schools.”

Morrow has called for abolishing the State Board of Education
and refers to Democrats as “communist sympathizers.”

She has said that Muslims should be banned from public office
and embraces conspiracy theories, including those promoted by QAnon

We can’t have someone running our public schools -- and its $11 billion budget -- who actively targets and attacks public education, public educators and those who support our public schools
