Sitting at my #Windows PC, I've been thinking about what my kid asked me recently - if I had #Apple's Messages, Notes and Reminders all perfectly integrated into individual client apps on Windows, would I still want to use the #Mac? I find myself right now wanting to send a couple of text messages to friends and not being able to without physically typing them on the phone. The Messages app is SO convenient. Do I buy a cheap #Macbook JUST for that functionality in this room?! HMM.

Anyone out there with a #MacBookPro using #DisplayLink to extend to a third external monitor? How is it? Can it at least manage 4k/60hz? It would just be for work so I’m ok with it not being perfect but want to see if anyone is actually using it as a daily driver?

Ich hab noch ein älteres #MacBook Pro von 2011, auf dem nur noch MacOS High Sierra läuft.
Nun möchte ich darauf gern mal Linux ausprobieren. In dem Rechner ist ein 2,8GHz Intel Corre i7, 8GB RAM und ich habe damals mal das DVD Laufwerk rausgeworfen, eine SSD eingebaut und gleichzeitig die HDD behalten.
Ist Linux auf dem MacBook möglich, würde das dann alternativ booten oder könnte man Linux sogar den Rechner komplett ohne MacOS übernehmen lassen?

Du coup, j'ai Yosemite et Monterey avec choix de la version de MacOS au démarrage.
iLife et iWork, plus les jeux fonctionnels sur Yosemite, et un MacOS moderne avec Monterey (officiellement pas supporté par ce Mac).

I got this #MacBook "Pro" from 2014 with a 4-core #Intel U processor... and this #Lenovo Yoga 13 from 2013 with a 4 core Intel U processor.
The Lenovo beats the "pro" laptop performance wise, hands down, and it was a cheaper model.
"Resale value" indeed.
Maybe I need to reset the SMC and clean out the fans. Let's see how it goes.
Newbie dipping toes into the Linux universe. :-D woot-woot!
Erasing and resetting old MacBook air 2015 model to test out linux mint for the first time. Only tried ubuntu like a decade ago on but it never stuck, as I was using macOS .
Holding thumbs it works. I know I can test it from a usb so will download and do that once the laptop is ready.
Not planning on using macOS at all so it should save space for linux. Very excited to revive an old friend and very excited to possibly become a first time linux user!
PS: I did ask around already on linux groups here on the fediverse, and was told mint should be fine, and would like to try something different from ubuntu.

Ola, hai un tempo instalei Ubuntu Studio 24.04 nun MacBookPro 10,1 (mid 2012) e todo funciona bastante ben. O único que non dou a arranxar é o brillo da pantalla. Atopei un modo de arranxalo metendo esta liña dende a consola:
setpci -v -H1 -s 00:01.00 BRIDGE_CONTROL=0
con isto funcionan as teclas de brillo da pantalla, o tema é que reinicio o sistema e volve a non funcionar.
Alguén ten idea d o xeito de fixar o cambio?
