Theatre prop creation is a blast. I made this tiny hammer as a visual gag that is planned for an aerial play I'm in. It is really fulfilling being able to read what is needed in group chat and respond "I'm on it. I'll have it for you tomorrow".
In my prop creation journey for this show I've learned some more skills in 3D modeling, 3D printing, LED control, manufacturing engineering, electrical for small projects, drawing, and using threaded inserts. I've also gained knowledge in different types of screws, drilling PLA, and different types of glue to use with 3D prints.
For this show I've made a necklace, a star lamp, and a tiny hammer.
Years ago, I was inspired to bring to life a great piece of art by my friend, Doug. I used a crusader helmet template by Ben Eadie as a basis for the helmet and constructed it out of floor mat foam and craft foam. The wearer can see through the black fabric covering the eyes and mouth.

I'm modifying a "Nerf" gun to look similar to Snipe Hunter's gun from Yu-Gi-Oh. Not only that, it's also going to function as a dice tower!
...somehow...
My brother asked me to make him a dice tower and he used Snipe Hunter, a dice-rolling card, all the time back in the day (that cheater). So we'll see how things shape up as I make this up along the way.
My first Megaman Battle Network prop was a scaled-up Battle Chip for a friend's 30th birthday.
The body is made from layers of EVA foam and can hold any 4x6-inch photo. The nameplate is a plexiglass insert so you can write any names for any photos you want.
The "Recover 30 HP" photo was perfect for his birthday. Though it's been several years and he still hasn't swapped it out with any of the other photos...
Feeling sorted. (For the upcoming Duck Creek Quack Pack production of Puffs, or Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Female Magic and Male Magic)

In 2023, I made a prop Cannon from Megaman Battle Network. It was donated to Desert Bus' Craft-Along fundraiser.
I finally learned a good deal of Fusion360 to create a 3D model. I took the model into Pepakura Designer to make 2D templates to build the majority from EVA foam. Some details were 3D printed.
I couldn't have finished it in time without the help of my family doing some odd jobs
Here and there I find a few minutes to work on the #happinessMachine. I glued some of the dome panels, since those will not be servo operated to open. #3DPrinting #StarWars #propMaking #droidbuilders #makersHour #wip
Howdy, I'm a mixed-media artist of sorts. I enjoy making a variety of crafts, props, and costumes based on video games and original ideas. I like things that are neat, and I hope you think my stuff is too!
Stormtrooper helmet progress from the stream last night. It’s just minor stuff, but those bring it together. Still to-do: ear pieces, lenses, magnets and weathering. #3DPrinting #cosplay #StarWars #wip #propMaking #MakersHour
I am missing two props for my Lightning cosplay for which I need to learn new skills: The survival knife and the bag. I already did a lot of analysis on the bag and made a plan, but I need to learn how to make these stiff seams so the bag keeps its form. Some kind of inlay will probably be needed.
The knife will be made of EVA foam but needs to be "sharpened", which means sanding and I guess that will need multiple attempts. Also my foam might be too soft.

I have been working on a few things behind the scenes as of late. One of which is a gift for my brother, who is a big League of Legends and Arcane fan. I’m happy with how this came out, but more importantly he was as well!
I did a quick job and resprayed the phasers yesterday. Also glued in the buttons. Today I glued everything else on. Also the grins are actually rubbery. I printed them with real flexible resin. They feel great. So, now it is all ready for tomorrow’s Christmas party. #cosplay #StarTrek #propMaking #wip
Want to take a guess what play I'm doing props for now?
-or-
Why yes, I can 3d-print that, apparently. #propmaking #communitytheatre #3dprinting
More batch work! I finished the first 7 #StarTrekTNG comm badges. The gold tint didn‘t turn out uniformly, but for a somewhat rush job it is ok. Remember I make those for free for some work colleagues for their group costume and I am not going full perfectionist on these. But yeah 8 more to go. #3dPrinting #StarTrek #cosplay #propMaking #wip #MakersHour
Last night, I also started applying the gold tint with the #airbrush. I used the mixture recommended by the YT-channel HappyTrooper, mixing Tamiya transparent red and transparent yellow with thinner. It makes for a nice gold color. But you really have to take it slow. If it starts pooling you get red-ish dots on the model. I am still to impatient while painting and had to go in with a cotton swab here and there. Also, I finished up the revolver with some silver drybrushing and glued the grips on. (Of course today I realized I still have a small lever detail lying in the bench which still needs painting and glueing to the revolver. ) #IndianaJones #cosplay #3DPrinting #propMaking #wip #MakersHour
I made more progress on my props for the #IndianaJones #cosplay! I did finish the grips of the revolver. Based it with burnt umber, did panel liner for the recessed areas and drybrushed some leather brown and mournfang brown. And some black wash over everything. The screws were painted with iron warrior. After that I did a gloss clear varnish over it to protect the paint. Also the fertility idol was completely sprayed with A-Stand chrome paint. #3DPrinting #propMaking #MiniaturePainting #MakersHour
Today I got to work more on the batch of #StarTrekTNG comm-badges. The body was base colored in gloss black and the next step was to #airbrush them with chrome paint. This will be the foundation for spraying a gold mix next. Also I cured the insets of the comm-badges, since only two were useable from the original print (did a mistake with supports). And the resin thermal detonator got also his chrome paint. #StarTrek #StarWars #3dPrinting #cosplay #propMaking #MakersHour
