@timrichards

We should cut our losses and deport US military from Australia.

“Joe Courtney, a Democrat who co-chairs the Friends of Australia caucus in Congress, noted Australia had just paid the first $800 million of a total $5 billion contribution to the US shipbuilding industry under the terms of the AUKUS defence agreement.”

“Prime Minister Anthony Albanese confirmed Australia would not retaliate with tariffs of its own, but said the US president's tariffs were an act of "economic self-harm".

That is the right call. Tariffs on US goods would only hurt Australians, the #Australian #economy and make the #CostOfLiving worse (#Economics101 everyone!).

What would be effective retaliation is for a consumer #boycott of all US products. Just don’t buy any of their shit folks! Starting with Govt purchases (I.e. cancel #AUKUS )

Another great retaliatory trade tactic is the imposition of #Quotas on all US goods and services.

Just saying the obvious here.

#asupol #AUKUS What a shambles. If we had stuck with the French contract, we'd probably be close to receiving the first submarine by now.🙄 😡

Instead of wasting more time & money on the flawed Aukus program, we must go to plan B now!

"DT’s actions in abandoning long-term alliances with Europe, support for Nato & Ukraine is a wakeup call. The new reality underscores the need for a fundamental review of arrangements to supply Australia’s nuclear submarines."

Australia should immediately stop all $800m payments to the US, after hundreds of millions have already been wasted..

Dans ce marché de dupes qu'ont signé les australiens, ils vont payer des sous marins que conserveront les américains qui pourront les stationner éventuellement dans le pays en leasing et s'ils ont quelques minerais à concéder en échange.

I agree with you Paul.

About #TheShot though, here we have a program which discusses very important issues (Dr Shortis is knowledgeable person and her views are always well thought out) but the hosts (Dave in this case) agreeing with their guest (Dr Shortis in this case) showed their lack of understanding (in this case the ‘mission profile’ informing an #SSN design). Dr Shortis’ view is that we should only have a sub-surface force to secure the littoral waters around Australia (a view I do not subscribe to) and she correctly pointed out that the #Virginia class boats are ill suited to that task.

IMO, if you don’t know much about something, you should ‘listen’ so you can ask intelligent questions (to inform your listeners) and not make stuff up for whatever reason you have to do this. /end_critique

Related.

As part of the AUKUS agreement with the US & the UK, Australia has signed up to buy nuclear-powered AUKUS subs. The cost is "up to $368bn" and delivery is a long-term thing.

But Australia may never receive its subs because US production is down and America will almost certainly keep them for themselves.
