Good morning Fedi friends!

After my self-hosting woes (I had to delete my ready-to-go Ghost blog on my site because it was on Debian/mariaDB... after 3 weeks of work on it, then failed to properly install Ghost with command lines on Ubuntu) I am ready to dive into my new VPS again. Turns out, after 48 hours you forget about the frustrations you felt.

It's a new day 🌞

A couple of things to report: within 5 minutes of publishing my previous toot (see above), I got TWO offers to help me analyze/fix what went wrong with my Ghost installation over a call. By two people I really admire on here. This is the BEST, most generous community ❤️

Now, because of time zone differences and scheduling issues I have yet to have that phone call. But this morning when I woke up I poked around my VPS dashboard and saw that I can do the following things:

  1. wipe the contents of my Ubuntu VPS (the one with the botched Ghost installation) and re-install any OS I'd like... at the touch of a button.

  2. re-install on the VPS an OS with a panel, like #Coolify or #Dokploy or several others.

Since I'm a Linux newbie who got really frustrated looking around my botched Ghost installation the first time around I would like to manage my system with an interface that simplifies my job.

So my question is: what's your opinion of Coolify? Yay or nay?

Thanks in advance!

Day 39 of building and shipping 🚀: One day after the release of PHP 8.4, I decided to upgrade our Dockerfiles already.

👨‍🍳** Core Coolify development:**
✅ Opened 1 PR that fixes a routing issue - it should have been a quick little PR, but it took me many hours to complete 😅 and it got much bigger than I would have hoped.
✅ Opened 1 PR to fix some readme icons and links
✅ Fixed some issues with my Dockerfile PR and upgraded to PHP 8.4

task-services: Manage your application processes in production hassle-free like Heroku CLI with go-task and Systemd

Using #Coolify #Docker has been easy (but slow), simple (with underlying cruft), containerised (and obese)

I miss when downtime was measured in milliseconds

Spent a bunch of time in the last couple weeks getting #coolify running on a VPS and hosting a #dotnet app and #PostgreSQL database. The only issue I'm having so far is getting the "dev.xyz.com" environment working... I think it's DNS. Otherwise really happy with the setup so far, and I might migrate my personal website to that VPS as well. There have been so many little ideas I've had for that site that just won't work on a static site without a bunch of extra work. This might be my chance!
