Observation of the day: #OHC #Covid19 tests are *not* very accessible either for #blind or #dyspraxic users. All those tiny parts, so the dyspraxic me was struggling to hold the extractor steady while doing all the other stuff, and the test takes 15 minutes, so unless you have a *bunch* of minutes for Aira or something, you're using up a *bunch* of time figuring out how the thing works. I certainly wouldn't recommend them for #NeurodivergentBlind people. @neurodivergentblind

Some days, as a mother to a combination of kids, I feel like all I do is clean up one giant spill after another. Todays best spill was a whole bowl of pancake batter that got knocked over so violently that the batter went between the 2 parallel sheets of glass in the oven and into all the little nooks behind knobs.

And oh the cost of all those lost ingredients hurts (gluten free flour is SO dear).

I'm coming to realize, I absolutely *cannot* move quickly at all if I don't want anything to go wrong. A mix of being #ActuallyAutistic plus #Dyspraxic means that I can't always catch if something is at risk of falling, and can't always catch it if it does. #Phiaton #Bonobuds are troopers! They survived a puppy trying to make a chew toy out of them. From now on, *any* standing up I do is going to *start* with a positional assessment of *everything* in my immediate vacinity. The reality I am coming to accept is that no, I can't just move in an instant. #Dyspraxia sucks, and trying to push around it just leads to problems.

We're looking for #dyspraxic children and adolescents in Devon to help us validate a newly-developed virtual reality screening tool. Participants get a MABC-2 screening, compensation for their time (£30), and the chance to play some cool newly-developed VR games.

A friendly reminder that not everyone is into the same things and when we put content warnings up pertaining to topics that you may not be interested in, do not take it upon yourself to invade or degrade the person or people. When a content warning is up highlighting that it's about a topic that you are not interested in, that post is not for you.

We don't need #bullying and #harassment when it is already prevalent offline in our everyday lives. I would venture a guess that it would be even more prevalent on the birdsite.

Ah, this is great. Gower et al. on autistic adults experience of motor coordination difficulties. Everything in this resonates very strongly for me, and particularly happy to see 45+ folks included and discussion of spiky profiles of motor coord.

journals.plos.org/plosone/arti

journals.plos.orgFrom “one big clumsy mess” to “a fundamental part of my character.” Autistic adults’ experiences of motor coordinationAltered motor coordination is common in autistic individuals affecting a range of movements such as manual dexterity, eye-hand coordination, balance and gait. However, motor coordination is not routinely assessed leading to undiagnosed and untreated motor coordination difficulties, particularly in adults. Few studies have investigated motor coordination difficulties and their impact from the viewpoint of autistic people. Therefore, the current study used FGs and thematic analysis to document the experience of motor coordination difficulties from the viewpoint of 17 autistic adults. Four main themes were identified. First, motor coordination difficulties were pervasive and variable, being present life-long and within multiple movements and affecting many aspects of life. Furthermore, the nature of the difficulties was variable within and between participants along with differing awareness of coordination ability. Second, participants described motor coordination as an active process, requiring concentration for most actions and at a level seemingly greater than other people. Third, motor coordination difficulties impacted upon social and emotional wellbeing by placing strain on relationships, prompting bullying and exclusion, putting safety at risk and causing a range of negative emotions. Fourth, in the absence of any support, participants described multiple learning and coping strategies. Findings highlight how it is essential to address the current lack of support for motor coordination considering the significant social and emotional consequences described by our participants. Further investigation of motor learning and interactions between sensory and motor performance in autistic adults is also warranted.

I’ve never been diagnosed but finally coming to terms with the fact that I’m very probably #dyspraxic. I was always a “clumsy child” and have problems with spatial awareness. It’s got particularly bad recently - highlights include dropping a new bottle of wine on the kitchen floor (that was FUN to clear up), being unable to walk across the room without tripping up and making a total arse of tying my walking boot laces (and tripping up over them in the process).

I've been on here for years and never actually did an #introduction post. Better late than never?
I'm a #neurodivergent #British #Trans Woman with #Dyspraxia, #Dyslexia and #Dyscalculia. I'm a recovering #tech / #computing hobbyist (trying to give it up, don't encourage me).

I'm into #art, #sewing/ #textiles (very much a newbie though), #crafts, #music, #writing / #fiction and #slowmovement.
I was atheist but I'm trying to get into #paganism (#celticpaganism / #celticreconstructionism specifically) and am planning to learn #welsh.

I'm a fan of #doctorwho and I've just started getting into #startrek.

I'm very interested in #webhistory and the #indieweb.
I've had follow requests on (and will likely indefinitely) since the Twitter exodus but feel free to request a follow, I'll accept if you seem like an ok person. Don't be offended if I don't though.

@del I wish I remembered who made the joke so I could credit them, I think it was about chronic illnesses - they're like buy one get five free 😩😅 - and I think it applies to neurodivergencies as well.

You can see it in a number of bios e.g. people listing #autistic #ADHD #dyspraxic #OCD #EDS #Tourettes

So, what I'm trying to say is that some ADHDers might bump into door frames because they're also #dyspraxic (developmental coordination disorder)

#ChronicMigraine #chronicpain #AddisonsDisease #adrenalinsuffiency #chronicfatigue #Dyspraxic #dyslexic most of the time it feels like it’s to much and all pilled up on top of me like rocks. I hate not being able to work, clean and tidy the house do the art I love, declitter, visit friends. My life is full of cancellations and drop outs. I save my energy to love my hubby walk my doggos, cuddle my cat, do a little art, and visit friends close by and have coffee. That’s my life.

My #introduction post: I'm #Autistic & was diagnosed with "hyperactivity" before #ADHD existed in the DSM. I self-diagnosed in my 20s, back in the early 2000s, but only got an official diagnosis (privately, as the NHS in my area was useless for AFAB adults) in January 2020. In addition, I'm #dyspraxic and #dyscalculic too.

I'm #disabled and #ChronicallyIll - my main diagnoses are #PoTs , #CentralSleepApnea , #Endometriosis , #InterstitialCystitis and #HidradenitisSuppurativa (among others).

As well as being #ActuallyAutistic , I'm an #atheist , a #humanist and #demisexual , #bisexual and #nonbinary .

I love the #Marvel character #TheWinterSoldier and the actor Sebastian Stan, #Rats , #knitting , #crochet , #tunisiancrochet, #writing and anything #medicine or #scientific . #Learning is definitely a #spin (and clearly I love hashtags too 😂).

If I say something that seems off, please just ask me to clarify. I always try to say exactly what I mean, but that doesn't always translate in reality.

@Herstory1 @occtherapy Absolutely agree that self-identification is valid for all neurotypes. It's appalling that people have to wait so long.

The health and social care system should have a policy where people are still recognised as 'likely to be' #Autistic, #Dyspraxic, #ADHD etc whilst waiting for official confirmation - thereby still able to access a lot of the support and accommodations at school, in the workplace in the meantime.

This is different unfortunately for being assessed for ADHD medication, but it's a start
