So, I didn't win the Hackaday Prize. Which is a little sad, but honestly, it would have been utterly insane if I had (the grand winner was an awesome braille display that could really help people in the world. Which is more awesome and cyberpunk than anything I could do).

I'm still amazed and honoured that my little cyberdeck made it to the finals at all! :)

The participants of the #HackadayPrize 2023 invented a new and cheap to produce #braille display cell.

"The big drawback to refreshable braille devices has always been their cost. The loose rule of estimation [.] has translated into something like $100 to $150 per braille cell"

According to Vijay Varada the cost of their braille cell is less than 1$

The project is entirely #OpenSource and will hopefully improve #accessibility for many people!

Congrats to @joeycastillo on his "Open Book" open hardware reading device becoming a finalist in the 2023 Hackaday Prize!

He was so kind at last year's Supercon in handing out free kits of this board and running a small impromptu assembly party! Such a fun memory sitting in a little sewing circle, with friends and strangers, laughing and soldering together on the Supplyframe floor. Wish I'd taken photos.
