Had some fun today getting systemd-sysupdate wired up for updating A/B slots in an immutable #postmarketOS install 🥳

I tried to capture a demo of it working, with `mkosi vm` to boot the image:

The updates are currently local, the final design will have updates fetched over https and verified.

PS: This is my first asciinema thing and I'm not sure if I'm holding it correctly... so if anyone has tips on how to make this suck less in the future... 😉

First successful boot of the U-Boot bootloader on the #Pixel3XL !
Since I don't have a USB-C serial cable, this is the on-screen output—though the display driver isn’t ready yet.

U-Boot can be controlled using the power button (OK) and volume down button (DOWN).

This also paves the way for proper mainline support for the device, as the previously required hacky Linux kernel revert is no longer needed to boot the #Pixel3 / 3XL.

Since @leandrofriedrich sadly didn't manage to finish his #postmarketOS ears last time, I secretly took on the idea, added "idiotic" modularity and took it to a next level. Now with #NixOS and #AsahiLinux support too! + optional AirPods Max support courtesy of @adafruit ❤️

p.s. ignore my sloppy work, this is the first time I'm doing something related to 3D printing
p.s. 2: I'm surprised that it survived my trains and flights all the way from Slovakia to #EuskalEncounter in Spain.

Hi #PostmarketOS users, my software app has this popup "message recipient disconnected from message bus without replying"

I have done a few searches and can't find anything specific (although there are similar linux issues from several years ago). Have restarted with no change.

Anybody else with this issue?

Today I reached a pretty cool milestone in my work to build an immutable #postmarketOS: the first configurable bootup with an encrypted user data partition and read-only /usr (for A/B updates)

Still lots more work to do though, but please enjoy this janky recording of me trying it out in a VM 🥳

Thanks to @nlnet for sponsoring this work :D

Update:
I've moved gitea off the orangepi5 and have it now working well on my #pinephone which is connected via usb ethernet to the network, it's running #postmarketos and seems to be handling it well git.solarcene.community

The mastodon instance is still on the orangepi and while it does keep resetting it seems to be reasonably stable, it's all backed up, I'm still planning what to do next, I might build a second server and then move everything across. Still not sure what's made the #orangepi5 unstable after over a year of running

I've started work on getting the system back online, currently I've got the orangepi offline and am exploring whether my #pinephone could be used to host some of the services. I used jump drive to install the latest stable #postmarketos to the eMMC, enabled ssh, installed a number of dependencies and currently am slowly installing ruby to see if mastodon might actually work (it should fit within the specs, just)

Actually quite fun

Again: how to disable random MAC addresses in #postmarketos #phosh version reliably ?
This seems to be a random feature - no pun intended☺
Sometimes it seems to work, sometimes it doesn't.
After a reboot it sometimes uses the real MAC address. After a while the NetworkManager chooses a different (random) MAC as the real one shown in the command
"ip address show".
If I restart the NetworkManager service it overrides the real one previously shown in the cli with the one it has chosen prior to the restart. After a reboot it is, again, a different MAC address😬🙃😦

This feels super awkward to ask, but I'm trying to crowdfund a used M2 MacBook for #postmarketOS development. My current ARM laptop can't safely run VMs (have to choose between virtualization or battery monitoring 😅). Daily-driving new hardware has helped me improve other ports (e.g. ThinkPad X13s), so this would help me work more efficiently and advance the M-series port in pmOS!
