"The FCC's Democratic commissioners, #AnnaGomez and #GeoffreyStarks, issued statements denouncing the investigation. 'This appears to be yet another Administration effort to weaponize the power of the FCC. The FCC has no business intimidating and silencing broadcast media,' Gomez said.

"Starks said that '#PublicTelevision and #RadioStations play a significant role in our media ecosystem. Any attempt to intimidate these local media outlets is a threat to the free flow of information and the marketplace of ideas. The announcement of this investigation gives me serious concern.'"

@cafkafk All I know is that #UHFSATCOM has been plagued with #PirateRadio transmissions abusing the 243 MHz area band #satellites as global repeater.

That's like 20+ year old #OSINT by now: Basically everyone with a #SDR like a #HackRF can send on those and for recieval some simple #UHF antenna and a DIY dish made out of chicken fence aimed at the GSO-bound satellites is all it takes...

  • OFC the #DoD will not like illegal transmissions but as per very nature it's trivial to recieve said messages for everyone who isn't lazy...

Getting rid of #landlines was insanity. When the #power and #internet goes out & you live in a poor #signal area you are stranded. My #rosecolouredspecs make me think it was better in the #60s/#70s when everyone knew their neighbours, we shared what we had when the power went out & had #telephones & #radiostations that were of use when there were problems.
I wonder how people with #heatpumps or all #electric #heating cope in long #outages. We have #stoves as #rural #services are unreliable.
