These two geographic areas are shown at the exact same scale.

The circle at left (#Wyoming + major parts of several other states) has 582,000 workers. The circle at right (#NewHaven + a few of its suburbs) has 751,000 workers.

The area at left is represented by 14 US Senators, the area at right is represented by just 2.

The US might be more economically competitive if its Senate better reflected the nation's economy.

Burnout

"The most destructive fires were set or commissioned by landlords, who collected enormous sums in the resulting insurance payouts. Black and brown neighborhoods across the city and nation were ravaged by the arson wave, which was fueled by subprime fire insurance policies that saturated neighborhoods of color after 1968."

The author's book on the 1970s wave of landlord arson, "Born in Flames," is forthcoming from Liveright/Norton.

Jewish CurrentsEdifice ComplexRestoring the term “burnout” to its roots in landlord arson puts the dispossession of poor city dwellers at its center.

@AbandonedAmerica @yellowstreetlight @CivicDutyPeg take it from someone fighting to rebuild #baltimore neighborhoods for the people and not for the #PE funds, The City is not your friend. Not because they’re not good people, but because American #urbanpolicy has been flawed since forever but especially since the 50’s. It’s a crap system designed to fall flat on its face & by golly one day we’re gonna scrap it for something that works.

Since I didn’t have many followers when I first introduced myself, I thought I should do another.

Study of #Beijing adults randomly-selected to win car ownership permits: The winners took 3 fewer transit rides/week, biked or walked 24 fewer minutes/day, and those age 50 and older gained an average of 23 pounds relative to the control group, a "statistically significant and worrisome increase."
