"You'll own nothing and like it", #tech people have said for decades.

It's only when the #neoliberal parties of the world realized that #LineGoUp would jux the numbers to show "growth" that we see companies become even more emboldened.

GamesRadar+ · Ubisoft says you "cannot complain" it shut down The Crew because you never actually owned it, and you weren't "deceived" by the lack of an offline version "to access a decade-old, discontinued video game"By Dustin Bailey

#TheAmericanFascist uttered this morning.

“I’m proud to be the President for the workers, not the outsourcers; the President who stands up for Main Street, not Wall Street; who protects the middle class, not the political class; and who defends America, not trade cheaters all over the globe.”

The left wing social democratic forces of the world (including the #Liberals and #NDP in Canada) have been so neutered and brow beaten into incrementalism and neo-Liberal corporate capture, that a right wing, billionaire-wannabe, near-Nazi fascist, and politicians who want to be like him (Pierre Poillievre) have stolen the rallying cries of working men and women (but mostly men).

These were the warnings working people and socialist forces screamed when Free Trade and privatization was born by Reagan and Mulroney, Thatcher and Chirac. The de-unionization of western economies, the decimation of public infrastructure for private “partnerships”…

Now here we are, it all got so bad that the regular person, struggling to put inflated food on the table, or put their children through inflated college, are so fed up that they submit to the regressive, racist, anti-human, bloviations of populist tyrants.

A pox on you, “Liberals” and “Democrats” of the world.

You chose corporations while you placated people with false promises and false hopes.

You enabled the worst of the human condition through complacency and greed.

Your limp, unconvincing defence of Liberalism and Democratic values destroyed both.

What will you do to win back the podium to speak for working people? Perhaps you don’t deserve to.

And then, suddenly, #ElonMusk realizes that #Trump 's tariffs may possibly be an end in themselves, to simply generate #budget #revenue for the #USA #state ,and not a means of pressuring other #countries into bilateral #negotiations for the complete mutual elimination of all #tariffs as well as a drastic reduction in non-tariff barriers, which is the #neoliberal #dream .He starts to understand that, as far as his own #business is concerned, he may have bet on the wrong #horse .

#YanisVaroufakis: "Many refer to this world — the one in which #GenX grew up — as the #neoliberal era, others associate it with #globalisation, some identify it with #financialisation. It’s all the same thing — the world the #NixonShock begat and which the 2008 financial crash shook to its foundations. After the 2009 bailouts, although US hegemony continued unabated, it lost much of its dynamism. Today, the Nixon Shock has run out of steam — at least from the perspective of the Trumpists who want to give #UShegemony a second (or is it a third?) wind. This is the whole point of the #TrumpShock and its masterplan, including tactical moves such as enlisting #crypto to their cause."

@davidho.bsky.social In case anyone was in doubt about how sociopathic Wall Street bankers are.

Global warming is happening, they say, so invest now in air conditioning stocks!

"The big banks’ acknowledgment that the world is likely to fail at preventing warming of more than 2 degrees Celsius above preindustrial levels is spelled out in obscure reports for clients, investors and trade association members. Most were published after the reelection of President Donald Trump, who is seeking to repeal federal policies that support clean energy while turbocharging the production of oil, gas and coal — the main sources of global warming.

"Morgan Stanley’s climate forecast was tucked into a mundane research report on the future of air conditioning stocks, which it provided to clients on March 17. A 3 degree warming scenario, the analysts determined, could more than double the growth rate of the $235 billion cooling market every year, from 3 percent to 7 percent until 2030."

It was only last century when things had settled in #Europe, when post colonial, #NeoColonial, #Neoliberal Europe looked up with glee at the peaceful and prosperous future. The promise was simple: #WW2, never again.

Now however we need Germany to #militarize and do so quickly, because the #US is falling apart in terms of being a #democracy, and all the #authoritarians are are getting ready at their marks.

www.bbc.comGermany decides to leave history in the past and prepare for warRussian aggression and US isolationism push a once hesitant Germany to invest heavily in defence.

#Commodification and the #speculation of the #PropertyMarket has lead us down this path.

A #market run by a bunch of opportunists means that they hold majority and can set the standards, like ensuring property development stays low and that rent prices stay high.

This also ensures that even if the quality and standards of living go down, the price won't - because people need roofs.

Welcome to #NeoLiberal heaven.

Struggling for a Real Alternative

For the last 5 years conversations have been about, the #Fediverse, #Web3 and more recently the pushing of #mainstreaming into the #openweb native path. But despite this, the #fediverse is still a notable outlier in the digital landscape. This is in part because unlike the dominant tech trends, which emerge from Silicon Valley and the cross-Atlantic #dotcons agenda, the #fediverse is rooted in European ideals of decentralization, federation, and digital autonomy, it's a "native" #openweb […]

@MyView
mostly agree with you, maybe not so much in the details but otherwise yes. Brave leadership will only surface when faced with the reality of governing while in minority (and a dwindling one at that).

Given that #LNP is a curse, I would not vote for #IND (they are the moderate #Libs anyway) so if any 'progressive' want to shake things up, they should vote #Greens first to ensure a #Labor govt forced to shutter their #neoliberal bent.

And for good measure, sack all the political #adviser hangers-on.

The #GeekProblem: Why Open Development Is Stuck in a Dead End

It’s no sin to have to submit to the #dotcons overlords—we all do it, whether we like it or not. Just recently, I found myself installing that vile spyware known as #WeChat because this was the only way to talk to the people I needed to talk to. That bitter swipe to hide the app from view brought a momentary sense of agency, but the reality remains: we are still too often failing at building out the #openweb that normal people find useful The fundamental question is: why? It's too […]

#Clinton's eminent domain laws for fueling gentrification real estate sharks was also the greatest violation of the constitution any #neoliberal has ever carried on.

Millions of hectares of public land were robbed of human rights of access by privatizing it. A great handout of what was public to ruthless banking interests.

What then became the norm to do is still spreading throughout the planet.

Trump and the tools of the old world order

An example of this is The United States Agency for International Development (#USAID) which was presented as a humanitarian force for economic and social development worldwide. However, its origins and operations paint a different much darker path, of geopolitical manoeuvring and #neoliberal hegemony over the last 40 years. Now, with the hard shift to the right, USAID is being gutted, alongside other long-standing institutions of the U.S. "liberal" global order. Origins and the Cold War […]

@ByrdNick
The ‘corporatisation’ (for want of a better term) of tertiary education institutions demanded by govts befuddled by the debunked #neoliberal economic ideology is at the core of what is wrong with our universities world wide.

These are places of higher learning, of logic and robust debates, of reading and writing, of research and mentoring, not profit-making cram schools beholden to share markets.
